It does not mean he will in fact turn to crime, but it DOES increase his or her chances. There have been many studies done on what factors aid in the commitment of crime, and truancy from school is a factor that aids negatively towards committing crime.

I am not saying if your kid skips school, they will be in jail in their future...what I am saying is that a high percentage of people in jail were also truant when it came to school.

The question here is.......WHY is the child missing school??

Is the child skipping school because of bullies?
Is the child sickly?
Is the child having learning difficulties and ashamed to go to school?

Find out why the child is missing school, solve the problem and the child will stop missing school.

And....missing school won't turn you into a criminal. It wouldn't be just the one thing, it would be many circumstances that turns someone toward crime. Not just missing school.

Not if he is a good person, but he is missing out on an important education, and will not be able to have the life that he wants if he does not have at least a high school education, which for many can lead to a life of crime for the quick payout.

But a parent can be charged for neglect if the do not ensure that their child is at school regularly. If it is a good school, they will make attempts to deal with the parents, but will go to social services if they have to.

People that don't live a productive life either turn to crime or other vices that cause harm to themselves or others.

It is a child's role to go to school and learn. Without those basic lessons, then how will they learn how to live life, work on jobs or even figure out their place in this world.

If they don't go to school now, what do you suppose will be left for them to do? Go to work, how, when they don't know enough to survive?

There are other ways of educating children other than traditional educational institutions. There are charter schools, private schools and home schooling. Either way, this child needs to be in some sort or learning environment and made to understand that the learning process it to prepare them for the future.

P.S. I hated school but loved to learn. I missed alot of highschool, graduated early and loved college. Go figure, who would have thought?

God Bless and Good Luck!!!

How about you concentrate your time on how to turn him around and get him to school?
If you are the parent... get more involved. Even if it means taking him to school. Sitting outside the class door and monitoring his homework daily.
If you are the outsider try offering more encouragement or find out why he is missing school.
I am not saying its 100% a good idea but here some schools pay the kids to go daily and/or for good grades. Last I knew it was $2.00 a day. But who knows now.

Not necessarily, but keeping kids out of school IS a crime in some states and parents can do jail time.

Why does your child keep missing school??? Unless he is sick or a family member has died then there is no need for him to miss. No, he wont be head of the mafia unless u dont encourage him to participate in school activities and school itself. Education should be a big part of your childs life right now..... so try to be a part of it.

I skipped school all 4 years of high school and especially senior year...yea I did some stupid stuff but now I made the decision to go to a one year discipleship program...no crime in that. I am also not saying whomever your talking about will end up all religious. Just giving you a real life example :)
