He's a great doctor, but we aren't buddies, so I'd like to keep it fairly impersonal. I think he's in his 40s, he surfs, he's single, lives in Hawaii. Any ideas? Around $100? And something I can ship or have shipped, he's on another island.

My currrent favorite idea is a charitable donation in his name...

and I don't know his religion, so don't want to do anything with a christmas theme.

Great answers, guys! it's nice to get fresh viewpoints.

And since it came up, I don't want to date him (I'm married and want to stay that way), I just want to show my appreciation that he saved my life.

My brother is a doctor and every year he receives many gifts from his patients. He usually donates most of them to charity or other family members. I think the gift to charity in his name is an excellent idea.

I think the charitable donation is a good idea if you feel you have to spend even more money than your insurance deductible. My suggestion would be get a really nice blank card and let him know in your own words how much you and your family appreciate his skill and efforts in saving your life. This guy makes a fair chunck of change and can buy most of the things he wants or needs but I think a heartfelt thankyou would touch him way more than an impersonal gift would.

The charity donation in his name is actually a great idea. It's hard for us to be ableto pick a good gift for him as it's you who know him and you haven't given us a good description. If you want it to be sexual and let him know you like him you could always get him sex wax. It is truly usable, but he will definitely think something of it. You could also check into board leashes. I don't know what they cost or even if they are a high usage product or even that he uses one, the cool ones don't but the smart ones do and since he's a doctor he may be on the smart side.

Honey didn't you pay him enough??
He must have some bedside manner.
If you really feel you need to give him something...... donate to the local Children's hospital in his name ( since you like that idea) or make him something yourself. impersonal gifts are not a good way to let him know how much you appreciate him. the only really impersonal gift could be good is a magazine subscription for his waiting room.

I'd send him a really nice cooking knife. For under $100 you could get a really nice 4 star henckel chef's knife or set of steak knives. You might include a note about how sharp he is.

I think a nice card or, if you must, a donation is sufficient.

I think your idea is excellent. But why do you want to give him a gift? (just asking).
