Honestly, that can only be answered by your LASIK doctor. He can tell if you are a candidate for it or not through an exam.
Here's a link to an article that can help you decide if LASIK is right for you.

Surgery is surgery. All surgery has risks, so you can never say any surgery is 100% safe. Look for a surgeon who is very well established and has lots of satisfied customers. Also check that he is using the latest technology.
Some of the possible problems with laser eye surgery include seeing halos around lights, sensitivity to light, eye infections, eyes feeling scratchy (not very nice if you're stuck with it forever). They are pretty rare - only a few per thousand people - but you have to consider that thousands of people are having these ops done these days, so it is possible you could be affected.
I first thought of having laser eye surgery over 10 years ago. Then, I was told it was very safe, but I chickened out. Since then, every couple of years, someone comes out with a "new, safer" method of laser eye surgery - and I think, "but they told me it was safe before: does that mean it really wasnt?"
So I'd say, if you wait until it's 100% safe, you'll be old and grey. Just make sure the surgeon explains all the possible risks before you decide.

My vision is 20/400 which is really bad. There was a time I really wanted to do the Lasik surgery. However, quite frankly, I am quite hesitant now... because of the possible side effects, and the other risks, etc.
I opted to try exercises to see if they would improve my vision. I created a blog so that people can follow my progress. You can check it out at
http://improvingmyeyesight.com/blog
I recently saw some improvement. Other people (who have also experienced improvements) have posted comments about their experiences as well. You can check it out at: http://improvingmyeyesight.com/blog
Hope this helps...

Helen in Drake and Josh didn't go totally blind. She only couldn't see for like 24 hours because her eyes had to heal after the surgery or something. But later she was fine.

Lasik and Laser eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and lasik surgery in India by a company called Forerunners Healthcare. The Price for dental and lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.
Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.
They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.
