The South Bronx and Harlem(125th St and up) are reputed to be amongst the worst area in NYC

Lots of Scarborough hating going on here. Yes, there are parts of Scarborough that have extremely high crime rates (Orton Park and the area by the Zoo) but there are some very nice and, yes, very expensive areas of Scarborough too like "The Guild" and the Bluffs Area. If you don't believe me, check out E8 on MLS.CA. The worst area? I'd say Jane/Finch and Regent Park are two places to stay away from.

Everything that was stated is largely correct, except, I would like to add that Harlem isnt that bad, EAST Harlem is though. The worsts areas that I know are def. South Bronx and East NY.

Just to correct some people ... there are some lovely areas of Brooklyn. Just one example: Park Slope To say all of Brooklyn is a "bad area" is just ignorant

Harlem is bad but only from 125-155 street
Washington H. is good
Time Sq is good!
Southern Bronx(Major Deegan Corners)
South Queens(Jamiaca bay area)
L.E.Side manhattan
the worest right now is JAMAICA cause teh cops shoot u for no reason. P.S- this guy got shoot cause he was in a stripp clubb

50 Cent reckons the Edgemere project in the Rockaways section of Queens was the worst project he ever lived in.
Crime is common and jobs are scarce apparently so that has my vote.
