the negative affects outweigh the positive ones by far. I would suggest phenegran and soda crackers !

Use of Thalidomide during pregnancy was a horrible mistake. Sadly, as noted by another answerer, more testing was needed. Even more sadly, as we have seen with so many drugs lately (Vioxx, Premarin, etc.) this lesson has still not been learned.
The positive side of Thalidomide is that new research is being done to evaluate its efficacy in the treatment of cancer. Thalidomide inhibits angiogenesis (new blood vessel growth) which is why it caused birth defects. However, this same characteristic may also make it beneficial in the treatment of some cancers.

thalidomide is used in the treatment of several diseases,
however, if used during pregnancy, it can lead to
deformities.
This drug should be monitored and prescribed by a physician
depending upon the condition being treated.
