If it's a normal "I think you're beautiful" comment, I'd be happy, smile and say, thank you. Probably have made my whole night!
BUT it depends on how you say it. If you say it the way, serial-killer, would say, yep, that's freak me out big time and I'd definitely run like there was no tomorrow.

if it was a first date i would kinda be freaked out if you whispered it.. but if you said it just normal and not have whispered it i think it would be okay...don't be so serious if its a first date
