i made my cake ahead of time and put it in the fridge. will the icing melt and ruin the basketweave design when i take it out?

Make sure there is nothing actually touching the icing as it warms back to room temp and you should be fine. If you have glad wrap or the lid of the container touching it as it goes back to room temp the icing will all stick tot he plastic.

It really depends on how warm the atmosphere is around once you take out the cake. It's better to keep in the fridge and just take out before serving.
