Good Question!
At this point, diplomacy without exclusion of any country is the only way for the US to save face and get the troops out quickly. That means utilizing the best talent NON-PARTISAN -- even non governmental-- in the US to come together in a big way and sweep the region. That means sending Democrats, Liberals, Activists and money, support and good will...to the region so that America can stand up in a world of nations again.
When you decide on the best answers, please pass them along to Congress. It only takes minutes to write.

Depends on how you define "victorious". The initial military operation in both places was quick and easy. But keeping stability in that region is complicated, determined by factors largely beyond US control.
The growing consensus (and I believe this is the trend) is that Iraq is too far gone into warring factions and civil war for any hope of US 'victory'. I don't know about Afghanistan, but I suspect the Iraq situation will weaken US influence and effectiveness there as well.
Bush, Sr. was smart enough to understand the futility of what his son has tried and failed at.

Commit the soldiers and hardware to overwhelm the enemy. Make sure we show we won't weaken and turn tail. Every time we show the slightest weakness, the insurgents/radical Muslims/terrorists gain that much more recruiting power. Finish what we started.
And we will have a presence in that region after stability in the new government has been established. For goodness sake, we still have troops in Korea, Germany, the UK....why would any thinking person consider that all of our people would be pulled?

We can't...there is no way to have victory when we are going after terrorist's...its not like a government or a person we can overthrow...or kill...its terrorism....its everywhere! The question I have is how does the USA get out of the Middle East and gain back a fraction of the respect that we have lost in this process? In my opinion, we are more a target of terror than we ever have been because of our actions. We are in a horrible mess, and it is not going to go away anytime soon, because no matter what we do now..it will be wrong.

I think we really need to understand what victory is. There is no more handing over the sword, I win, you lose. When our national interest is secure, we should go home. They can clean up the mess.

We can be victorious through rigorous and brutal genocide. It sounds terrible, but in reality nobody truely cares what happens to that God forsaken desert.
