I will be dining out with some friends this weekend, and we'd like to go somewhere unique in Little Italy for some great Italian food. Thing is, we're all on the broke college student budget, so it'd be great to find some restaurants that aren't more than $20 - 30 average total price per person. Somewhere with a really distinct atmosphere and vibe would be much appreciated, too. Thanks!

For broke college students, I would recommend Puglia - Hester Street, right off of Mulberry.

They have big communal tables, good food, cheap wine (red or white, no list!) and it is loud and fun with live music that everyone sings along to.

La Mela on Mulberry is also a good place for groups. Fun and loud with good family style food. Totally reasonable prices.

The other suggestion in Little Italy is Luna on Mullberry. Not as loud and fun as the other two, but still good food at good prices.

There's quite a few italian restaurants between canal and spring streets. Check out the website below, it will give you a map and menus of some of the restaurants in the area.

Frankly, from a native New Yorker,Little Italy is strictly a "tourist trap". Overpriced, too crowded and mostly boring, undistinguished food.

Do yourself a favor, and go to Lombardi's Pizza, in Soho and have the BEST pizza in the US!!! in a TRUE NY atmosphere, with real new yorkers.

I'm looking for a similar thing, but for Christmas Eve dinner... I was told by (Ivan) the concierge at the Park City Hotel to check the "Menu Pages" website. So far it has been helping me find the right place with the right price.

Hey I know this great site that you can go to and make reservations, check out their prices, menus, times, and then even get points the more places you book trhough time and then when u gain "x" amount of points you get a free check for resturant of choice. Its really cool - so check it out. Not to mention its good for tons of cities and states - I travel a lot so its great when im meeting people in areas im unsure about etc. You will love it!

I agree with the poster earlier. I recently was visiting NYC and went to Lombardi's for Pizza in Soho. Was outstanding, and was within your price range. Also, wine wasn't too incredibly expensive.
