Why were the Gnostic gospels ommitted from the Bible as we know it today?

The leaders of the christian movement decided what books went in and which stayed out so that they could control the masses by manipulating what they believed within their religion. Power is a hard thing to give up, and sharing the different views from those texts surely would have shed a whole different light on their religion.

The decisions were made at the first council of Nicea. There are two interesting stories.
One is that Constantine threw all the writings onto a table and those that remained on the table were in and those that fell off were out.
The other is that the Bishops put all the writings on an alter and left out those that were magically thrown off the alter.
It is, of course, not clear exactly what happened but it is reasonable to think that the writings that were left out were those that would not support, or would in some way contradict, the Creed that stated that God, The Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ were one and the same. This was not the view of all the Bishops.
Constantine certainly had a great deal of influence over the Bishops and an interest in making sure that there were no further arguments over basic doctrine in the church.

Briefly: During the Council of Nicea, many of the leaders of Christianity gathered to settle the various issues they disagreed on, such as whether Jesus was a Man or the Son of God, etc. Once they came to a decision on most topics (they couldn't bring themselves to agree on Everything!) the Bible was analyzed and compiled to support that which they had decided. The rest was either labeled as Apocrypha (good reading, but not divinely inspired), or heretical. There are still various Gnostic churches operating to this day which use many of these gospels, as well as "secret" societies desceding from older orders using the same.

because they did not meet the time line and different criteria for the Bible gospels. a million. there is not any solid information that the gospel of Mary Magdalene became rather written with the help of her 2. nicely, he may have 'favorited' one way or the different her for her being a lady and following Him even although that it became not consumer-pleasant for females people to be able of attempt this, yet God loves all both. 3. Jealousy did not make the Gnostic gospels any extra solid 4. Jesus became sinless, Jesus did not have any fanatics and He under no circumstances had sex, under no circumstances. 5. No, Judas had his loose will. Jesus in simple terms knew how he became going to apply it. Jesus became good. 6. certain, Christianity is a own relationship with God, not a faith. in spite of the indisputable fact that, God made us for the community and for this reason church has a huge function in our own relationship with God. we are the body of Christ. Church is the body of Christ. all people favor to operate correct for that body to finish good, which skill also exhibiting up for the worship. The 4 gospels are secure with the help of God. They help the Scripture. Jesus shown the former testomony and promised the NT.

There were many many scriptures floating around at that time. The theologians at that time discussed making a biblical canon for determining which scriptures were inspired. For more info go to http://www.gotquestions.org/Gnostic-gospels.html .
Mainly, they were forgeries that claimed to be written by disciples but actually were not. An obvious example is the Gospel of Judas - he hanged himself after he turned in Jesus how could he have written a Gospel?

the gnostics were a group of early Christians who believed that god was evil and that there were secret messages encoded in the letters of Paul and the teachings of Jesus which would allow the discoverer of these messages to free themselves from the world and evil god and be happy.

how much the gnostic gospels have to do with these beliefs im not sure, but they were omitted by the early church because they contained ideas which the church held to be heretical.

Im not kidding about the first paragraph either, strange though it may be, many different religions have a sect similar to the gnostics of the early Christian church or to the scientologists of today.

One reason is the date they were written. Everything in the New Testament was written during the same generation as Jesus, by eyewitnesses. The gnostic gospels were written 2 or 3 hundred years later or more and not by eyewitnesses. They are hearsay.

From my vantage point, I'd say that the compilers [aka 'Septuagint'] felt that they didn't mesh quite well with the Paulinian doctrines that the early RC Church preferred at the time. So there.

Your best bet is to get Top Secret clearance and have ready access to the underground vaults of the Vatican Archives. But I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that one if I were you...

Peace be with you.

And throw what endanger their belief, even if the Gospels were written by the Jesus close man under the guidance of Holy Spirit....
