you better do something about current bad situation than just sit down and complain about the situation you dislike.
light a candle represents your action to avoid the darkness from remaining
curse the dark represents the absence of action to improve the situation but instead you are just complaining about the situation.

rather than gripe about your situation (darkness) do something about it yourself (light a candle)
