Absolutley. Many people think because cats (unlike dogs) are their own 'person' so to speak, they don't need companionship. The fact is they thrive on having contact with people, even if they don't sit on your lap, they know you are around and that is very secure and safe to them.

As far as your travel concerns, your kitty would probablly prefer to be left at home (even though she would be lonley or bored) rather than go through the stress of traveling. Despite their roaming spirt, this scares the begezious out of them! Few cats actually enjoy traveling.

So I would recommend having at least two litter boxes filled (and clean) so they have an 'overflow' (cats love clean litterboxes) and at least two bowls of fresh water (fresh water is essential...you can even get one of those fresh water ones that you plug in and it filters it...costs about 19 or 29 bucks depending on size). Next a dispenser of dry food is good. For wet food, they have a few out there that opens to a portion every so many hours.

Is this a lot to do? yes and no...your cat will love you for it! If you can have someone look in on kitty, please do. Also make sure to: 1) Make sure their collar is on (a breakaway version is preferred) and 2) you place some sort of sticker on the window or door stating you have a cat inside for firefighters should something happen.

It really depends on the personality of your cat.

My li'l tiger loves having us at home and is very playful and loving but she totally doesn't care if we go away. She's 4 and very different from the cat we had before her for 13 years. He hated it if we were gone for more than 6 or 7 hours and would stop talking to us for days. He also frequently left "presents" under the covers of our bed if we dared to leave him alone too often. Even when we got him a babysitter, he'd get even with us. He was very lucky he was so cute and loveable when we were home or he'd have been in trouble.

Do Cats Get Lonely

Yes! Cats get very lonely, especially if they are the type that likes to cuddle (honestly, I don't know what cat wouldn't fit that type). I remember coming home from vacations to have our cat waiting for us at the door and meowing very loudly for someone to pet her. I would not reccomend having a lot of food and water out while you're gone because he might eat it all. If you're just going for a day or two, he might be okay being by himself, but anything more than that, you should probably arrange for someone to come over to make sure that he has fresh water and enough food, and they should also be willing enough to want to clean his litter box. If they don't want to clean his litter box, you'll need some litter that does very well with masking odors. You should also make sure that his favorite sleeping spots are available. I also remember that my dad would flush all of the toilets in the house before leaving for a trip and he would leave the lids up, just in case our cat ran out of water. She had been known to drink out of the toilet before.

cats do get lonely if you leave them. Even if you leave them enough water and kibble. If you have just one cat they get more lonely then if you have 2 cats. Your one cat will survive if you leave him but may be mad at you for a day or two when you return. Even if you have 2 cats that may happen but probably only for a day instead of 2. Don't leave him to long. Even though he is probably a loner because cat can be that way they still like routine and still like companionship.

that's very nice of you thinking of your cat.
I think so. but a day or two won't make her cry or sick.
if you leave for a week, yes she will be lonely and her food will be bad by then since cats dont eat a lot even if you put a lot out.
you may find her having diarhea if you dont take care of her that long. Dont you have a friend that likes cats? maybe they can take care of her if you leave more than 2 days.

Depends how attached they are to you. I once stayed overnight at my sister-in-law's place and when I got home, my family told me that my cat bugged every individual in the house meowing and jumping on shelves and tables and looking at everyone with the evil eye as if to say, "Alright, where is my momma?" I can imagine what he'll be like if I didnlt retunr home for a couple of days!

Yeah there is a chance the cat is lonely. If you're thinking of getting him a companion take time watch him see if he is social with other cats

He will be glad to see you when you get home. He won't die of loneliness in a day or two.

Boredom is the enemy of a lot of cats, even when their people are at home. Remember to play with him lots when you are there. They need regular exercise to keep from getting fat.

Hope you have a safe trip.
