C'mon, golf isn't a sport. It's a game, like table tennis or "quarters" that involves some skill and is typically played while getting drunk.

No disrespect intended - I play golf (poorly) and it's a great game.. but it's not a sport.

Why is it that a sport has to be easy. If it wasn't a sport then everyone would be good at it. maybe you should get a definition of what a sport is. Play golf not in a golf cart but walking and carrying your own clubs and you will notice that it does take quite a bit of energy to play and if you were good you would see at how much the fatigue takes it toll. The only people who don't think golf is a sport is those weekend golfers that go out and play and drink while playing. That golf isn't a sport but high school, college, professional golfing is a sport.

Actually Golf is one of the few real sports out there.

Baseball is a Game
Football is a Game
Soccer is a Game
Golf is a Sport

The key is that football, baseball, soccer, and a lot of other games can be played in your backyard. They can be played anywhwere which is why it is a game. Golf can't be played anywhere as you need a golf course. Which is why it's a sport. You don't need a football field to play a game of football. Anyway, who do you think will face Ohio State in the big GAME since USC lost their game yesterday and Florida won their game against Arkansas?

It is a sport. Here is the definition of sport, "A sport is an activity requiring physical ability, physical fitness or physical skill which usually, but not always, involves competition between two or more people (wikipedia)."

Swinging a club is a physical skill that not everybody can do, and do it with great consistency and accuracy as great golfers do. Plus, after a round of golf, my shoulders can get pretty sore, especially when I am swinging over 100 times!

If an encyclopedia defines it as a sport, so should you!

Try walking 18 holes in the middle of the day, for four straight days and see if you feel the same! Golf is actually one of the hardest sports in the world! I resent when golfers atheletiscim is questioned.
True some are fat and out of shape, but so are the 350+ pound lineman who have zero athletic ability. Also, does it really take a lot of atheltic ability to dunk a basketball when you are 7 feet tall?

Clearly its a sport.

1 a : a source of diversion : RECREATION b : sexual play c (1) : physical activity engaged in for pleasure (2) : a particular activity (as an athletic game) so engaged in

1. It is played competitively
2. It requires physical and athletic ability.
3. It requires hand / eye coordination.

Granted the levels of physical and athletic ability are not as demanding as other sports, bit it is a sport. But because it is not as strenuous as other sports, more people are able to enjoy it.

The better question is...how is NASCAR a sport?

I will agree with you on some respect that it can be a hobby. However for the professionals it is a sport. They have to do a lot of work to continue to play at top levels. At tournaments they constantly walking for 5 days straight and the fatigue is very powerful.

No leave golf alone. There has to be one sport where professionals can be fat white middle aged men with no sense of fashion.

i think golf is just as much of a sport as anything else. it's just not a contact sport, like football is or like the way basketball is evolving to be!
