We have been suffering with her for 4 years now and we have been having to fly all the way to New York City to see a Lyme Specialist. She has had treatment once that's it .. but as i've read u need treatment for like 6 months. It's not that easy to fly to new york every time she needs treatment ... and there are NO damn doctors for this in Texas ... any tips on what to do ?? Or any advice from anyone who has been in this situation before ???

Hi Justin

Here are some ideas to start the healing process. Contacts on the bottom.

Quick Action Steps for Lyme Disease

1. To help determine if you have Lyme Disease, go to Dr. Burrascano's symptom checklist (a.k.a. Risk Profile) using the following link: www2.lymenet.org/domino/file.nsf/UID/guidelines

2. Avoid all alcohol and sugars, all processed and fried foods, all refined flour products, commercial fruit and vegetable juices, artificial sweeteners, and foods that contain hydrogenated oils and trans-fatty acids. Dairy products, caffeine, and non-herbal teas should be consumed sparingly, if at all.

3. Emphasize a diet of organic, whole foods, with plenty of fresh fruits, complex whole grains, organic free-range meats, poultry, and wild caught fish, and drink an abundance of pure, filtered water.

4. Also be sure to be tested for food allergies and sensitivities and eliminate all foods for which you test positive.

5. Useful nutrients include vitamin A, beta-carotene, vitamin B1, biotin, inositol, B-complex vitamins, vitamin C, omega-3 oils, calcium pantothenate, magnesium, and zinc, as well as CoQ10, acidophilus, the amino acid L-carnitine, and thymus gland extract.

6. Helpful herbs include astragalus, gingko biloba, ginseng, and maitake and reishi mushrooms, as well as cordyceps and Laryx.

7. Get plenty of rest and learn how to effectively minimize and manage stress.

8. To ensure full recovery, also seek out the help of support groups and organizations dedicated to providing information about Lyme disease. The following doctors and organizations are a good place to start:

Joseph J. Burrascano, Jr., M.D., 139 Springs Fireplace Road, East Hampton, NY 11937; (631) 324-7337

Lida Mattman, Ph.D., Nelson Medical Research Institute, 11664 Martin Road, Warren, MI 48093; (810)755-6430

JoAnne Whitaker, M.D., Bowen Research and Training Institute, Inc., P.O. Box 627, Palm Harbor, Florida 34682; (727) 937-9077. Website: www.bowen.org

do not situation. I had Lyme disease and as long as you seize it previously it seriously impacts your health you would possibly want to be high quality. The disease itself is basicly a bacteria an infection and is dealt with with antibiotics. because you stuck it early (i assume) you ought to no longer assume a lot soreness with the exception of a few negative consequences from the medication. although in case you probably did not seize it early, you could adventure some extreme health topics. As for searching for the tick attempt your warmth spots, like arm pits, hair, and so on. there's a small danger it remains on you, yet probability is it fell off.

My son-in-law has gotten good help from a group at Baylor in Dallas. I believe it was a specialist in infectious diseases that helped him the most. I'll check with my daughter tomorrow and get specifics. They went to a lot of different doctors before they found help. I hope your sister can find the help she needs without flying to New York.

Lyme Disease in the later stages needs a course of antibiotics for about one month (longer treatment is not useful). However it is a recurrent disease, and a second course of antibiotics maybe useful (again for about one month). It should not be necessary to travel anywhere to recieve such treatment...check your phone book for the CDC (Communicable Disease Center) office in the largest city near you, they will be able to refer you to the best or most qualified physician in your area. There are many excellent Medical schools in your area and they also should be able to guide you to a physician skilled in zoonosis (diseases carried by animals). I am only a consultant to CDC so I don't know all their branch offices and their reportable diseases (I work in toxicology-animal venoms) but their information service will be able to guide you...I believe they also have an 800 number...so look under Health and Government Services....be persistent....also when you begin your telephoning, have all the information in hand...name of doctor, date of diagnosis, etc etc.
