it's a great place to stay. Crime is pretty low within the city, the people are friendly and jobs are available everywhere. You'll never regret moving here.

The crime rate here in Halifax is pretty high! For a city of it's size there are alot of violent crimes, swarmings, some gang related activity, and drugs are a major problem. But saying that, just like any other city, as long as you don't go looking for trouble, and stay away from the bad areas you will be fine. I live in Halifax and personally never had a problem. I love it here!

There is lot more crime in Halifax then there used to be. However, "safe" is a relative term. I suppose compared to cities which are notorious for being crime ridden, it's safe. There are some neighborhoods which are kind of sketchy though. I suppose it's a good a place as any to raise a family.

Halifax has a population of around 330,000 and graffiti is one of the major crimes, so yes, it's a safe city. Homicides are usually single digits in a year. The crime rate has been dropping in Halifax and the rest of Canada every year. It's a nice maritime town and I'd recommend it.

It's absolutely safe to raise a family. Halifax is a great city... the only problems with crime you will really run into are if you're dumb enough to walk alone downtown late at night, or get into a bar brawl.

Crime prices in Halifax were "better than the nationwide consumer-friendly" in 2010 and 2011, yet i does no longer say that they were so undesirable that you want to cover in the back of quite a few deadbolts and sleep on the floor to stay away from the stray bullets. after all, it truly is Canada you're speaking about. Having a nasty crime score right it truly is like ending up in very last spot in the bypass over Universe competition...do not assume any of them to be "undesirable". once you're shifting from Guelph, you may want to discover the crime price is somewhat better than you're used to. If shifting from Sudbury or Thunder Bay, you've about an same "in protecting with capita" crime prices.

Like the person above me said, the crime rate is getting worse.
It certainly doesn't compare to bigger cities or many countries around the world, though, so comparatively it is pretty safe.

It's a quiet, peaceful little city and I'm sure you'd like it for family-raising, and it's also cheaper than bigger cities-- in rent/houses for sale, and food, etc.
It's also not too small in the sense that it gets boring. It has nice, multicultural activities and festivals in the summer time. Winter is quieter, but it's bearable.
