i bugged my parents so much about a dog.
tell them it will make you more responsible
for the whole poops in my bed thing say that you won't let him in your bed. ( my dog wasn't even suppost to be in my room, but later on your parents will grow soft from fighting you)
the pound taught my family how to potty train dogs but it takes a lot of time so i suggest you do it around break:
you take in out on a leash every hour on the hour singing a song or urging him to go to the bathroom but only take him to one spot in your backyard. i did this when i adopted my 11 month old puppy and he only goes in that one spot and it took only 5 days to train him to do it, that makes him housebroken and it makes it easier to clean up after him.

You need to prove to your parents that you are responsible enough for a dog. A lot of people (adults and kids) say they want a dog without realizing how much work goes into it. Ask your parents about fostering a dog or if you are old enough, volunteer at a humane society to get a feel for looking after a dog. Any dog has a chance of pooing inside if it isnt let out or has a medical issue, or just an accident.
You mentioned e-coli. If your brother did a project on it, they should know that e-coli is more possible from poor cleaning on a cupboard or from undercooked meat than a dog. My nephew nearly died from e-coli when he was under a year old. He got it from undercooked hamburger. Altho his Mom is very careful now; they have 2 dogs. So, that should eliminate that argument for you.

While having a dog can be a lot of fun, it is also a ton of work. And while your interest in animals is great, it would probably be a good idea to research dogs with your parents before getting one. They have to be in agreement for it to work. Even though it's easy to think that you'll be doing all the work for the dog, they'll end up doing a lot of the work, too. Puppies will pee and poo in the house until they learn to get control of their bladder and bowels, which is at about 6 months old. Puppies will chew on everything they can get at because they have to lose their teeth. Puppies will cry when you leave them alone, and they'll need to be taken out and exercised even when you're busy with homework and friends. It takes a lot of work to control these natural puppy behaviors, and you have to know how. Then, once you have it, you're going to be stuck with that same animal for another 12 years or more until it dies. Convinced yet? It's a lot of work! It's definitely something that everyone in the family has to be sure about before getting one.
But if you talk all this over with your parents and decide that maybe you will get a dog, check out your local animal shelter and look at adult dogs that are already housetrained. These might be a much better choice. Just be sure to do your research first!

Puppies are indeed a LOT of work. Talk to your parents about getting an adult dog instead. Even though you won't be able to witness its cute puppy phase, you will save on a lot of hard work and big messes.
Adult dogs can hold it all night, so as you are house breaking it, you can put it in its kennel at night and leave it there until you get up in the morning to walk it. Also, adult dogs are less liable to chew up your stuff when you're not looking. And the biggest plus of all is that most adult dogs won't wine and cry all night long like most puppies do.
To help persuade your parents, start volunteering at the local animal shelter. This will help you understand about the many responsibilities of owning a dog and will show your parents how serious you are. Another thing you could do is foster a dog in your home for a few days so you can show your parents that you are willing and capable of caring for a dog. A lot of shelters will allow you to do this. And yet another thing you could do is start saving your money...allowances, loose change, etc. Show your parents that you are willing to save your money to pay for some of the things that the dog needs, like its shots or its collar and leash. Lastly, mention that you want a dog several times a day every day. It may drive your parents crazy, but it will be a constant reminder to them of how serious you are about this.
Good luck!! I hope you get your dog!

How old are you? Are you going to walk it on a leash every day. Caring for a puppy is not just a lot of fun, but it's a lot of work. If you want a puppy then YOU need to care for it every single day weather rain, snow, windy, sunny, hot----. The puppy needs to have shots from the vet, and heartworm pills, flea protection. This would be your responsibility, not something to push off on Mother. You need to read or ask the petshop how to keep a puppy from pooing at home. It's a lot of work.

You need an on site dog lover and trainer to convince these parents of yours, as it seems you want this dog badly and they are resisting. You do realize a dog is a lot of work, don't you? Someone will come along and give you a website and better ideas than I can. When I grew up, it was a natural thing for a boy to have a dog. I have trouble dealing with an anti-dog attitude.

Awww...how cute you want a soft, loveable puppy with a wet nose. Nice picture, right? Just reading your question, I would guess that your not older than 13....so let me clue you in on a thing about puppies: I currently have an 11 week-old Doberman. The cutest pup I have ever seen. He's a great friend and he has a wet nose, too. Oh yeah did I mention that I need to wake up at least twice per night to let him outside to go "potty" in 30 degree weather? Mind you-- I'm an adult with no children...just a husband. I highly doubt YOU WILL be the one waking up-- oh and by the way who's going to pay for the things your puppy needs? (Veterinary visits, food, toys)...it's all very costly. And, who's going to take your dog on walks when it's 50 degrees outside? What about when you want to play your video games and your puppy is at your feet begging for attention? It might be fun at first---but after awhile it becomes VERY hard. Sweety, a puppy is just like having a child...so do yourself a favor and get a goldfish.

based on my experience,, i grew up with cats and dogs at home...my mom and siblings cant live without atleast one but luckily we had more tha 20 in the the past..
anyways this is what we do to our dogs.. we put them on leash but make sure they will stay in a comfortable area, not a couch or whatever, atleast a cool and neat spot inside or outside your house.. then get like a sand-box (what is a sand-box for?..) dogs look for sand or soil when they wanna poo or pee.. problem in the states why they mess on the rag is because they cant find sand or soil..
dogs are smart,, just treat them good but not spoil them.. give them enough food and shelter (almost like humans)but never spoil them (believe me!)give them stiff orders eventually youll find out that they are learning and gettin trained without paying any expensive dog trainers..
hope this works..
and tell your parents if u know how to be a reponsible pet owner it means youll be a responsible in evrything youll be doin!

I went theow the same thing as you are...and i just told that i would tran it and if there was something i didnt know how to tran it on i would just get books on traning your pet. but the best way if to show them that you can take care of it and that you'll do what it takes to keep the puppy happy theres alot of stuff to do with puppys but i think if you really want it you can do it..just show them you can.
