My mother was diagnosed with a Meningioma Tumor in the Cerebellum of her brain. She had an 11 hour surgery to remove it on February 3rd, and she has never been the same since. Everything hurts her every single day, she still gets headaches, she can't do barely anything without getting tired quickly, she is more emotional, she has just changed substantially and it is driving my family nuts, but I have not given up hope on her yet, im her 15 year old son taking care of her, and I just wanted to know what to do ? Will she ever get over this ? I just want my mother back to normal again ...

We have talked to her doctor many times and he tells us the same thing "it's going to take time" it just is frustrating and it's almost been an entire year and it seems like nothing has changed .. she's worse then she was BEFORE the surgery .. we just are in a bind and dont know what to do anymore.

You and your family need to come to terms with the possibility that she may never be "back to normal." We still know very little about the brain. It could be that the tumor damaged her brain before it was removed. It could be that the surgery was just traumatic on the brain and caused some damage or at least changes. I know things are very difficult for you now, but remember they're difficult for your mom too. I'm sure she wants nothing more than to not hurt, not have headaches and to be able to take care of you instead of the other way around. Try talking to someone--a trusted friend, relative or school counselor--when you get stressed and frustrated, and do your best to be patient with your mom. I do hope she gets better and that things improve for you all. Take care.

You might want to read I Had Brain Surgery, What's Your Excuse? It's a memoir of someone recovering from brain surgery and how they felt. It might be easier for you if you can understand how she feels. The public library can order the book for you through interlibrary loan (free).
Here's a website with info that might help you.

I know it is frustrating. Unfortunately, there are no guarantees for "return to normal" after many brain surgeries. Recovery can take a long time. Your mom might return to close to normal, but there is also a chance that she might have some differences. Hang in there with her. Give her lots of support and love. Your mom knows there is a difference in her, too.

She needs a couple of years, and you need respite. A 15-year-old should not be the caregiver. Insist that the doctor hook you up with agencies that can take some of the burden off of the family.

Talk to her doctor. Her brain needs time to heal. Also, read about the cerebellum and it's functions. Don't worry sweetie.
