Pontiac GTO by a long-shot. Ford had more recalls than GM and DaimlerChrysler combined last year, for reasons like exploding engines and wheels falling off. In Automobile Magazines test the Pontiac beat both the Dodge Charger and Ford Mustang, in looks and performance. A Mustang V6 will loose to a Mini Cooper and the V8 is not as fast as a Subaru WRXor Mitsubishi Lancer EVO.

You are not getting 365 to the rear wheels stock on a GTO maybe 320 or so. Hell I get 370Hp stock on my 03 Cobra and have blown by many a GTO. The GTs are putting in the range of 265 or so to the rear wheels. I like both so it is up to you. I think the GTO would be a great all around car that has an extra 100hp on the GT and people can not tell what it is out of a crowd. So if your looking for a sleeper that would be the car for you...

Personally, I'd go with the GTO for 2 simple reasons...1) I've always preferred GM over Ford; and 2) The GTO Engine and body designs have been around for almost 10 years in the form of GM of Australia's Holden Monaro. Whereas the Mustang boasts new agressive styling (which is nice, yes) but new suspension and engine combinations that I've yet to test and evaluate personally. Keep in mind that both of my listed reasons don't mention the fact that every 18 year old kid is gonna get a Mustang for graduation, too. GTO's are fewer and farther between, Mustangs are on every corner.

The GTO is better because it has a fully independent rear suspension it has more horse power 100 more to be exact and it also has better build quality since it is build in Australia. You did the math when you asked your awestion and the GTO is a faster car plus it handles very nice as well I got to drive a 2005 GTO six speed and I loved that car I just wanted to through out the guy from the dealer ship and drive it home.

Well, if you could FIND a GTO in a parking lot it would be a miracle -- it looks just like every other car GM has built for the last ten years. Which is why Pontiac can't even fire sale them off the lots. At least the Mustang looks the part...

Mustang! Costs less, about as fast and there are way more aftermaket parts for it (plus it looks better). The Pontiac was a good car but not a great one, in reality it was just a rebadged Holden from Australia. Look at some of the comparisions that Road & Track and Car & Driver have done between the two, that Mustang always wins.

I would choose the Ford Mustang cause they're easier to come by and they have better reliability than the GTO.

The GTO would be my pick. The Mustang is over produced and lack-luster in styling. The GTO is a uniquely styled sports car that has an aggressive stance, not to mention a powerhouse for an engine.

Mustang GT. There built to out live the driver. Pontiac's are built to piss money into that's the way GM makes their cars.
