why is it practical to use solar energy as a resource in colorado

Hi Andrew,
advantages of solar energy would include the absence of pollution, the absence of impact on global warming, and the fact that once you have purchased the equipment the fuel is free. Although there is the rather large problem we call "Sunset" there are ideas for storing the Sun's energy by means such as converting some of it into Hydrogen which is then fed into fuel cells at night or in cloudy weather.
As for it's practicality in Colorado, there is no need for pipelines to transport it or facilities to store it. Both of which can potentially explode either by accident or intentionally. I'm not aware of anyone who has ever been killed by a photo cell! Also, Colorado is a rather large place, at least from the perspective of a guy in MA!
Best regards Andrew,
Dave.

You bet. The 'energy' for solar arrives for free. Gas has to be shipped via pipelines from wells. All along this line of march there's a lot of maintenance that has nothing to do withe actual production of electrical energy. A gas pipeline can't be left alone for a minute. It has to be monitored 24/7. In contrast ALL maintenance for a solar plant is done on site. But wait...there's more! All solar capture doesn't have to be done at a centralized location. Solar can be sited on every rooftop in Colorado and all of those units can be connected to a grid. A centralized plant can capture energy during the day and hold it via molten salt, batteries, capacitors or compressed air for power generation at night. In concert with wind generation such a system would produce all of the energy needed. Systems such as the above are perfect for the entire southwest of the United States and if installed all over would drop the use of fossil fuels to a bare minimum. Natural gas could still be used for backup. Why we haven't national project up and running already is a great mystery. We could stop burning 75% of what we're currently burning in five years AND have a new industry and a million new jobs at the same time. So what's the holdup? Short answer: The right wing radio dummies are against it! My opinion!

Dave is absolutly right.

Solar energy doesnot pollute, no harm ful green effect and temperatur rising, no depletion of ozone layer and so many more benifits. Although initial cost is high and sometimes maintainance can be a problem due to local conditions but overall it is more benificial. Natural Gas will be over soon and as such all natural resources available on earth have a limit and sun will certainly last much longer and any investment to use its energy will certainly be most economical if you take time frame and cost in calculation.

Once your initial costs are out of the way, it FREE!
The sooner a person can convert to Solar, the more saving that can be realized over a life time. Example; a person that is 60 years old may not be able to realize a profit in their life. Someone that do this at 25 may actually see a profit over time in more disposable income.

natural gas cannot be reused. therefore, once used its gone so eventualy it will run out. unlike sunlight, it willl be there till the sun goes out.
no pollution
