agreeing with the 3,2,1
3parts flour
2parts butter

Mix, let rest the roll out and use.
easy and creates enough fat envelopes between the layers of flour that create steam when baked that separate the pie crust into flaky layers.

Here's my recipe for Almond pie which explains how to make the crust. You can substitute other nuts for the almonds if you'd like.
MARK’S ALMOND PIE
For the crust:
1 ½ cups flour
1/8 cup sugar
1 ½ sticks cold salted butter
Ice water as needed
For the filling:
6 oz. crushed, chopped or slivered almonds
4 eggs
1 cup sugar
½ cup light corn syrup
¾ teaspoon almond extract
¾ teaspoon vanilla extract
½ stick of salted butter, softened
1 tablespoon flour
Add the flour and sugar to a food processor and then add the butter, one chunk at a time, and pulse just enough to incorporate it into the dough. A coarse meal is the target consistency. Add the water in tablespoon increments, again just pulsing the processor enough to incorporate it until a dough is formed. Scoop it out onto a floured board and lightly knead it for about a minute. Form the dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap and allow it to rest in the fridge for at least an hour.
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees. After the dough has rested, roll it out on a floured board to fit a 9-inch pie plate. Line the plate with the dough. Mix all of the ingredients for the filling in a bowl until just incorporated. Pour the filling into the pie and bake for one hour or until the filling sets. Cover the pie with aluminum foil to prevent the top from over-browning.

1 lb shortening
5 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons salt
1 egg (medium)
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 cup water, Cold
Beat egg in measuring cup.
Add cold water to measure 1 cup.
Add 1 tbsp vinegar.
Put dry ingredients in processor.
Add liquid, about 1/4 cup while processing til mixture forms a lump.
Let rest for 30 minutes or more. Make pie crusts as usual.
I found this recipe on www.recipezaar.com; it is similar to a recipe I use, but I use good old-fashioned lard (don't gag).

2 cups flour
teaspoon of salt
2/4 cup vegtable shortning
1/4 cup of cold butter
cut in butter and shortning till a crumb like consistancy.
Add enough milk to bind ingredients into a ball
cut almost in half leaving one crust a bit larger...cover in plastic and put in fridge for an hour...roll dough out and put in pan and bake.
when mixing butter and shortning into flour cut it in...use edge of spoon and get the butter and shortning into little pea size pieces mixed through the dough for a flakey pie crust.
Apple pie may take up to or over an hour to bake at around 350 to 400 degrees

do not use the first recipe 1pound of shortening and 5 and a half cups of flour is way too much for one pie crust also use lard instead of vegetable shortening so you don't have trans fat.try the recipes on this website.
