My son is 18 months old and has not been able to hold anything down for 7 hours now. Has anyone used Tigan suppositories on their baby or toddler.....and what results did you get?

My family and I all just got over the flu- I haven't thrown up in over 15 yrs, and did Sunday. My son is 13 months, and he threw up a couple of times on Thanksgiving Day.... then had diarrhea- until now... its lasted 5 days so far...

We called the nurse line... they told us it's ok if he looses some weight, he will gain it back they said. However, she said as long as he isn't throwing up, keep trying milk at least 2 times a day- to counteract with that, give him bananas, and regular yogart. I have noticed this does help as far as his diarrhea. Other than that, I give him some cheerios- he just isn't too hungry at all. But we give him - tried Pedialite- he hates it, so then we tried some clear colored gatorades. They said as long as he has one pee within 12 hrs, then he should be ok... and it could last up to 2 weeks... but 5 days is the average. So try to keep some clear liquids in him, keep his fever down, and go from there... when he can handle foods better- you can try the above what they told us.

Goodluck, it's not fun :(

P.S.- I wouldn't suggest the suppository- call the doctor to see what they say- but the above is what our nurse line told us.

Call your Dr before giving Tigan(I don't know what it is ) on your son. Also how is he vomiting they will ask. My son vomited for 3 days but, they figured everything wasn't coming up so he was ok give him pedi lyte or other electrolyte mix (my kids loved the freeze pop ones) as he needs to stay hydrated. definitely give your a DR a call also try to figure out if he has anything new added to his diet with my son this happened when I introduced whole milk. We just let it run his system and tried again a few weeks later. You also need to separtae how much you are feeding him give him a couple ounzes then nothing for at least 1/2 hour then a bit more then 1/2 again you need to do this because after they have vomited a lot their stomache will not be able to hold a lot down for a while. So sneaking baby little bits are more likely to stay down.Good Luck and get ready for a long night.

Your prescription is for ADULTS, and since an overdose could cause death in an adult, it is safe to assume it could cause death in a toddler. Since you would not know how much of a dose is "safe" to give an 18 month old, I highly recommend you DO NOT give it to him. Children get stomach viruses often, and 7 hours is not time enough yet to panic. Let his body work through it and keep trying to give him fluids, but DO NOT give him Tigan.

I have used them in the past, they are excellent. If you have them for your child there's no harm in trying. The only problem would be if your son has diarrhea too. The suppository needs to stay in the rectum long enough to dissolve and be absorbed. Hope that wasn't too gross of a description for you.
Note: I have had pediatricians prescribe Tigan for my children in dosages for their age and weight.

My ped. also prescribes Tigan for my childern, in age and weight appropriate doeses. I have always had good results with using it. Good luck!! I know how hard it is to have little one who is sick--Both of my kids, 5 and 1, just went through the same thing.

i would thinkif you child is vomiting, that there is a virus in his system. his body is trying to get rid of it and it shouldnt be repressed. let him vomit but keep givinghim fluids. dont try any foods til tomorrow and when you do, make sure they are mushy and easily digestable.
