I do know the catholics have nothing on the Jehovas Witness when it comes to accusations of ministers abusing younger members...they have many sex abuse scandles and there are yahoo groups specific to many faiths that are for ex members who seek understanding from others who also see thru the stuff and nonsense.

Define homophobic. Just because I believe homosexuality is wrong does not make me homophobic. Am I "pedophobic" because I hate and detest pedophilia?

Southern Baptists. They are extremely high-and-mighty about anyone who doesn't "believe" the way they believe. I know this because we grew up in a mostly-SB state in the Bible Belt. My brother was active in our church all his life. He also participated in sports, had a close relationship with his father, and got good and dirty playing outside when he was a kid. He dated nice, respected girls from our church whose families we knew and even our pastor couldn't stop going on and on about what a great guy he was. But when he was 24, he broke down and told us - including his pastor - that he realized he was gay and couldn't hide it anymore. His pastor told several elders at the church and next thing we knew, they were all trying to convert him back to "straightness". It was insane. They made him feel like the worst creature on earth. When that didn't work, they all turned their backs on him. Our parents weren't happy about his being gay, but they told him they loved him and he would always have a place in the family. HOwever, the judgmental attitudes of our friends at church was too much for him to bear. He was being snubbed outright at church functions and a few people even told him he was going to burn in hell if he didn't "change his ways".

He ended up committing suicide because of being ostracized by the church he had always devoted himself to. The pastor would not even preside over his funeral; we had to find another pastor to do it, somebody whom we didn't even know and whom didn't know my brother. Needless to say, my family is no longer members of the Southern Baptist Church.
