I'm thinking of adopting a Jack Terrier puppy. I'd really like to raise a Jack Terrier if it is suitable inside.

NO
A Jack Russell Terrier is a super energetic dog who needs more room to roam than most large dogs.
There are some super dogs that size who do great in apartments. My sis has a Japanese Chin who is litter trained and our pom would have been as happy in an apartment as he was in our big backyard but a Jack Russell would be very unhappy (and when they're unhappy, they are VERY good at making you unhappy) in a small space.

Here's some good info on Jack Russell Terriers. Unfortunately, Jacks are extremely easy to find in shelters because so many people underestimate the amount of time and energy they demand.

No- they are highly active dogs. And Great Danes do make better apartment dogs- they usually just sit. Or you could get one of those fluffy breeds that just sit there, but Jack Terriers are extremely active and if you can not take him out for a couple miles each day, he will tear apart your apartment. Plus, from what I've dealt with, they tend to be barkers which would make most of your neighbors pretty angry.

I LOVE Jack Russells. In the right home situation, they are fabulous dogs. They are NOT for everybody. I work in rescue and I have seen what can happen when a JRT ends up in the wrong situation. If you care about the happiness and well-being of your future dog, take a second to read:

Do u know anything about Jack Russells? I bring my Lhasa Mix to the dog park a lot. lhasa are exactly the opposite of the dog your thinking of. Mine just sits by Mommy and is content to walk around some. But J.R. are he opposite- they are extremely active, run around, play, rough-house with other dogs, and love to fetch toys. How much time are u planning on devoting to the dog?. Because if u don't devote much play time, running around time, walks, your apartment is going to become a MESS!

I think you could make it work. Just make sure you are allowed to have pets. Next make sure you give him plenty of excercise since he will be in a small area. Like give him plenty of walks and play time. also make sure you have access to a yard or grass area of some sort that is okay for it to relive itself on. Make sure that area is near by so when potty training, it will be easier. If that isnt available or you are on like the second story or something and you couldnt get to a lawn of some sort then you could consider using litter training instead. litter training for dogs is becoming more popular and is easy to train dogs to. all you do is get a dog litter pan and get dog litter sold at your local pet store. then set it up and when ever you have to take your dog outside just put it in the litter box instead and praise and treat him that way. Also if he will be inside all day while you are at work he will be able to relieve himself when ever he likes. good luck, bye

too bouncy. they are very high energy dogs, and tend to pee everywhere. they are adorable puppies, but they are troublesome adults. first, you need to make sure that you can afford to raise a puppy (any breed). you need to devote tons of time to it, playing, etc. vet bills can be high, food, toys (lots and lots, cause they chew them up), etc. please don't get a puppy if you are constantly out or working. get a cat. get pet insurance, and know everything there is to raising a dog. we have a dach puppy, and i spent my first morning with him crying because i was so exhausted from staying up all nite with him. he turned out fine, and is my favorite thing in the world, but it took it's toll on me. make sure you puppy-proof the house too. also, make sure the apartment mgrs allow dogs. good luck.

Not trying to burst your bubble but HELL NO.

They are diggers, and LOVE to run around. If I were you I'd adopt a cat. Or a Chinchilla. Or a rabbit. Or a reptile. Or a poodle. Poodles are very smart, and sweet.

:D

They are very energetic dogs and need room to roam. Hopefully you have a place nearby to walk them often.

It sounds goofy, but I have heard that Great Danes do quite well in apartments and do not need large areas.

yes---BUT---be prepared to spend plenty of time outdoors exercising this dog----if you don't give him something to do, he will become destructive, and will bounce off of the walls---I would strongly suggest an obedience class, and from there get into agility or tracking, or something to keep this dog busy!
