Here goes: The bible says when you pray, don't do it for showy display for on lookings. The most high God knows our hearts. Jesus set the pattern in which we should pray. He said, "Don't say the same thing over and over." He meant like in some religions, you have to say catacissom chants. The lord's prayer was not to be said as a religious ritual, but it was only a pattern or example to follow. So when you pray , do not pray to please others, but only the most high God in heaven Ps. 83:18
I hope you understand what I am trying to say.

There are four things to remember in prayer( ACTS)
Affirmation of God's character
Confession
Thanksgiving
Supplication
Don't worry about stumbling over words. We all do it. The pastors and elders have been praying in public for many years and even once in a while they will stumble. God does not expect us to make poetry out of prayer. He just wants us to talk to him from our heart.

It takes mental preperation for that kind of thing sometimes. If you're that kind of person. What helps me, is thinking that after all...IT IS a prayer. No one is going to make fun of you. Start off saying small prayes out loud . Simple ones where you thank for your provisions and ask for forgiveness. And then slowly start building up things that come to you. =)

Does prayer even work at all? Hundreds of millions prayed for God to stop Hitler before he killed 30+ million during WWII. Considering the success of their efforts, God is either powerless, heartless, both, or does not exist at all.

Talk to God just like you would any one else. I start all my prayers now by calling Him Daddy God.

Your INTENT is everything to your God. And I'm sure your God has a sense of humor as well. Have fun with it. I called Bast "Bastet" for the longest time. She didn't seem to have any hard feelings about it.

Begin with praising Him. (Our father who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name)
Reaffirm that you all are trying to do His bidding (Thy will be done)
Ask for His blessing for the group you are in front of, or for His help if that's why you are gathered (like an AA meeting or something lol). (Give us this day our daily bread)
Ask for His forgiveness (Forgive us our trespasses)
Ask for His guidance along the right path (Lead us not into temptation)
End with more praise (for Thine is the kingdom)
Yeah, basically follow the Lord's prayer, but put it into your own words.

talk to him like you talk to your friends.
you don't have to put on some big production to get His attention. Do you really think he'll listen to jumbo mumbo production mess? He know's what you're going to say even before you attempt to say it so just talk to him as you would anyone else. :-)
