My dog has been diagnosed with perianal fistulas, and the vet taking care of her now said she had one of the worst case he's ever seen. That was back in Oct 24ish. He putted her on Cyclosporin and antibiotics(they're orange) and she' still on them to this day. We went back two weeks ago and he said she had cured more than 50%. I'm suppose to get a this cream soon, but I have no money left whatsoever. I can only afford it next month. He told me that before he wouldnt consider it, but now they can and she might have to go through anal gland removal surgery. My question is, if she gets them removed will she still get pf? what about the treatement? How long does it usually take. Let's in this way: I'm only 18, with a partime job, and other things to pay, and still in school. so far it costed me over 700 bucks. I dont mind paying for her at all because I care so much about her, but I need to find out how to work my budget around her. So far, Ive been doing okay though.

First of all, I want to thank you for being such a loving, responsible pet owner, especially at your age.

According to the first site listed below, the Cyclosporin treatments are WAY expensive and beyond the reach of most dog owners. If I were you, I would contact other vets in my area and ask them what they thought, what sort of treatment they would advise. And what those costs would be.

I would also contact the breeder of my dog. This problem, from what I just read, can be a genetic issue. I would not only contact the breeder to inform them of the issue, but to ask for a possible monetary contribution.

Also contact local animal rescue groups, contact the breed rescue group of your dog (GSD?). See if they can't help out with some vet bills.

And talk with your vet. Explain your situation, ask for a full possible bill and see if you can't set up a payment schedule.

Many years ago, when I was about your age, my own German Shepherd female contracted Pyometria and the only option was to spay, and the operation cost nearly $500 (almost a month's pay at the time). I had absolutely no money in the bank, but my vet was willing to work with me on the bill. I sent him $50 - $75 a month until the bill was paid off...without any interest being charged.

I wish you and your dog the best and I REALLY wish more people were like you.

it's a pity that all pet owners are caring like you. I had a cat that set me back about 1200 and a bunny that has cost me about 3000 to date.

We love our animals and they are family. But at some point you have to wonder what is best for the animal. My cat was eventually put down, but the bunny is hoppping around on the floor as I write this.

Good luck.

Talk with your vet about the long term prognosis and see if you can work out a payment plan.
