If that describes you, can you try to explain this animosity?

I am non-Christian atheist. I do not hate Christians.
And that's not all, I believe Christianity is a very beautiful religion, and Buddhism right next to it.
And that's still not all. I believe Christianity made the western world what it is today, and I truly like it. It's not perfect, but Christianity definitely "civilized" it.
I enjoy the fruits of this religion, yet I cannot believe in it. It might be that I am too "logical"/"rational" (I need tangible proofs for anything in order for me to believe in them).
But I am very happy that this religion is what it is, my values/morals are very Christian, and I follow them successfully. The only thing is that I do not believe in God, any god.

It is truely unfortunate that people have used the name of Christ to perform horrendous act of persecution, torture, thievery, murder and war. There are people in this world who have every reason to be resentful and mistrustful of people calling themselves Christians and saying that they represent a church of some kind.
I would like to believe that this is all ancient history but the memories will last and haunt the world for a very long time to come.
True Christians have a true Cross to bear.
Even today many "Christians" are judgemental, arrogant, busybodies.

As long as Christianity, as well as several of the other "ultimate truths", have as their end and gleefully sought after goal, the END OF THE WORLD, and as long as they believe that their rights are being violated if they are denied the opportunity to use the coercive power of the state to shove their god down every ones throat, you will have to put up with us being in your face. Why should we abandon a forum where we can let you know that you will not be allowed to carry out the silly "End Times" rubbish that you seem to forget would include the rest of us.

To be perfectly honest, its because so many Christians hate non christians, because they choose not to conform.

Some of choose not to be mindless sheep while others choose to because it comforts them.

Alot of the reason has to do with the fact that Christians try to convert every person that they see, like its their life mission to save every person every living thing from something that they consider eteranal condemnation.

Christians have to understand that not all belief systems work this way and that some people choose to believe in them. Not because "Satan" made them but rather because they do it out of their own volition.

Most humans want to be their own gods. They want to do what they want to do, and do not wish to submit to the authority of God. They want to create their own laws and their own morality, which will change from decade to decade and from second to second. The Moral Law of God is a total affront to them, because inside them they know that they are violating these eternal and immutable laws. Christians are sinners too, but Christians remind the little gods that there is a true God who they are rejecting and who will someday control their eternal destiny. This makes them seeth with anger.

Its all in the eyes of the beholder. The conflict is on both sides. People usually tend to only see persecution towards the side they are bias towards. It goes the way you suggest and also the opposite way just as much.

Giving you the view from the middle ground.

first of all, if you are a christian, you have to be the bigger, more gentle person. of course, it is the war against good and evil (God has already pre-destined Satan's fate, and he and all of his people know it) sometimes people want to do what is right, but they don't want to quit doing what is wrong.God says you have to choose. and for those who don't, he does not know them, and will spew them from his mouth. there is only black (evil), and white (good) and anything that considers itself grey ( which is what most people are, is just fooling themselves.
however, God will give you the words to say at the moment you are to say them, if you are trying to help save them. remember that Jesus loves the good and bad, and died for us all. he waits at the door, but is their decision to let him in, you cant force anyone, only let his light shine in you, for all to see...be the example and not the prosecuter.. may God bless.

Because Christians and other "believers" are irrational sheep and thinking peoples can't respect their ungrounded sense of reality.
