My daughter has this, she is 11. We are visiting with a therapist tomorrow and hoping all goes well.

I have GAD, and am 23 years old. Here is what has helped me most:

-Surrounding myself with understanding, supportive people
-Spending time outside (it relaxes me - what would work for her depends on what relaxes her)
-Hot (decaffeinated) tea at night
-Avoiding coffee, colas, and other sources of caffeine
-Talking with my doctor
-25 mg of Paxil each day (carefully chosen and prescribed to me by my doctor)
-Smiling and maintaining a happy attitude

Best of luck with your daughter - GAD is rough, she'll need plenty of support and open arms! :)

This is a very common mental health issue in adults as well as children My daughter is also 11 and has GAD. What will work best for her is to reassure her she is safe and little by little take her to places which make her nervous. They say the most important thing you can do is slowly hit the anxiety head on but make it at a slow pace she is comfortable with. Hope this helps.
