Hi there...certainly. Although, not as nearly as commonly seen as male cats they do spray.
Female cat spraying:
http://home.ivillage.com/pets/cats/0,,2j1z,00.html
It surprises many cat owners to learn that female cats can spray. When a cat displays this behavior, she is marking her territory because she feels that it's in danger. It may be because of something that's changed in the house, or it could be because she spotted a strange cat outdoors.
You need to be a detective and figure out what could be causing her to feel threatened. Do you have more than one cat? If so, perhaps the relationship between them has changed. Cats who spray are stressed so don't punish your kitty. Get to the root of the problem. Something has changed in or around your house, and it has caused your cat to become alarmed. It may be something that seems minor to you but is of major concern to your cat.
The areas where she is spraying may help provide clues as to what the cause could be. If she's spraying near windows it could mean that she has seen a cat outside.

Unspayed female cats definitely mark around the house when they are in heat to notify males of their receptivity for mating - even if there is not one in the immediate territory.
I have a spayed female cat and cat fence-in in my back garden. There is a cat on the other side and I have seen her go out and spray the fence! She is very territorial and the dominant female of my clan.

It is possible for females to spray. They aren't as bad as the boys, but a space challenged or emotionally disrupted female can spray.
If you want to check it yourself just do a web search for female cat spraying.
I might add, there is someone tracking all my questions and giving them an automatic thumbs down, even though the answer is correct. It isn't even a matter of opinion thing...it is personal. So, a thumbs down here, doesn't mean I am wrong, and you can check me.

Yes-why important to spay cats. For that is the only thing that WILL stop this behaviour since it is instict. It_spaying-will also protect the female cat from ovarian cancer and other types of cancer as well. Not to mention will have no kittens that will need homes found for.

Yes, usually only older spayed females. Just like with humans their hormones get out of whack too.
