Don't get me wrong, Oprah has done some great things. But the media always makes it looks as if Oprah herself is giving things away, such as the cars. That just isn't so. She has her people contact manufacturers to give away items and since it's Oprah, they see it as an advertising opportunity and jump on it. Color me stupid, but if someone can afford to go to the Oprah show (even afford meals if everything else is by chance paid for), they aren't that bad off. Then there are the houses she had built. Yeah, she did give some of her own money that time, but I'm not impressed. They were furnished again by companies, not her. And after I saw that Oprah didn't even know how to pump her own gas, I lost a lot of respect for her. If she is really one of us as she claims to be, why doesn't she do everyday things so she will actually know what it feels like to be one of the little people.

I have only been helped by her thought provoking reporting, but I have to stand up for O cause she's one of my heroes. She's brilliant, talented and she managed both her career and her money well. She has done a lot of people, both directly and by helping start a trend towards philanthropy amongst the super rich.

I know that's not what you were looking for, and before I sound too holier than thou I will be the first to admit I've though dang, I wish someone would give me a new car or help me open a business.....but to talk poorly about a generous person just because she hasn't helped you directly isn't right.

Oh, and I thought I was done...sorry-but how many of YOU have the influence to get companies to donate items. Oprah has risen to the point where she can use her influence for the good others, nnot just her own cash. And that is wise management of her career and her resources......See, I told you she was smart.

And how many of you people would pump your own gas or mow your own lawn if you could afford to pay someone to do it? You are equating money with social status (the comment about the little people). I pay someone to do my floors because I absolutely hate doing it and I have the money to afford to pay someone...would I be helping that person if I said, no, I must do it myself.....I don't think so. Woops, that sounds like yuppie guilt coming out. So how about, it's MY money, I'll spend it how I want to, and Oprah can too.

Last and not least, Maya Angelou likes her-and that woman is no one's fool. If she thinks Oprah is a good lady, that's good enough for me.

yes oprah has taught me how to be pompous and arrogant just like her.

like when she took credit for giving away cars, when it was GM who did it, not her.

Oprah doesn't really help anyone ... if she really cared she's help those people who were needy and unrepresented.
