The Catholic Church will never disband as you say, number one because of the huge piles of money that support it, and number two because of the millions of congregants that choose to worship there. It's a lazy man's religion. Why do I say that? I wont label all Catholic's as lazy, but many of them are. I know because I was one. Attending a Catholic church requires little, very little from it's people. And that, for most of them is comforting. They don't think for themselves, because they are not asked to. The vast majority of the mass itself, is ritualistic and repeated, word for word, week after week. With the exception of the 9 minute homily (sermon), the bulk of the mass is a rerun. Now, how boring is that? Yes, they change up the readings from week to week, but even those are short and only a verse or two, with not a lot of teaching in the mass to support those words. The Catholic church will never disband because it's cut and dry, (very DRY in fact), simple even, and the people that attend them, like it just the way it is. They are ok with the staid format week after week, year after year and it works for them. They don't want to be challenged and they are not, so it's a perfect spiritual marriage. People who leave the Catholic church and seek out other Christian churches, are literally overwhelmed by the sheer breadth of knowledge that is taught at other denominations. Other Christian churches bring bibles and actually READ them during the service and take notes. And, many Catholics find this over the top. Ridiculous. The pastors at non-catholic churches TEACH at the service, not preach and that is a big, big difference. It's truly amazing. I found myself completely unfulfilled at every Catholic church that I attended, and began searching . What an epiphany it was to find that I was actually learning. Prior to the mid sixties, less than 40 years ago, most masses were given solely in LATIN. Now I ask you, how mindless do you have to be to sit through anything that is being said to you in a language that you don't even understand? I find that completly ludicrous. Have they come much farther since then? To some degree, I guess the answer is yes, I mean at least most of them speak in the native tongue of the neighborhood. But as far as actually teaching their congregants versus preaching, they've got a long way to go. And like I said, since the majority of Catholics don't WANT to be challenged, this will never change. It saddens me to say all this, because like I said, I was a Catholic myself for about 20 years. And while there are indeed many, many facets of the church that I love, there is much, much, more that I cannot sanction. Now that I've moved on to a church that has taught me more than I would have learned in a lifetime of masses at St. Whatever, I've found that the grass really is greener.
Petunia: a final thought...I know that the Catholic church for those of us that have been enlightened is greatly disappointing in many ways. I hope that you have not completely given up and that you have found peace in a truly bible teaching church. If you haven't, I highly recommend that you try so. You'll be pleasantly surprised and it will change your life immensely for the better. Trust me.

There seems to be fairly a false impression here with reference to the election of the Pope. The Pope is elected by the cardinals of the Church. The election is attributed fullyyt to the skill of the Holy Spirit, with the cardinals praying and fasting to work out what the will of God is. different Catholics do no longer take part in the 'election'. They place self assurance in God to furnish them with a pacesetter who's in a position and able to steer the Church. the actuality that a black or hispanic Pope has in no way been elected does no longer mean something. John Paul II exchange into the 1st non-Italian Pope elected in over 4 hundred years! The Church does no longer discriminate. It helps blacks and hispanics to be cardinals and bishops, that are the two optimal score workplaces in the Catholic Church after the Pope. there's a time and place for each thing, and proper now the Church desires Pope Benedict XVI as a pacesetter. Who is accustomed to what God has in keep later on?

Wow...you're not biased or anything.
1) Less than 2% of all priests have been shown to be pedophiles. That is less than the norm of 2% in any nation.
2) I am not excusing the pedophiles. They should be strung up, beaten, and rot in hell.
3) The Pope was likely not aware. When John Paul II found out, he stood up (hard for him to do at the time) and SCREAMED at the offending bishops to make it right. Since then, many priests, bishops, and even cardinals have retired or been recalled (both of which gets them from being in constant contact with children) and jailed.
4) Our current Pope is not marred with this scandal.
5) With over 98% of the Church doing what it should, and that percentage is actually higher since we got rid of the known child molesters, why would it disband? There are over 1 BILLION believers.

You can't disband a 2,000 year-old religious institution with over a billion followers overnight. It's not just a few pedophile Catholics, either. How about the Muslim terrorist cells and other religious trouble-makers?

hmmmm... such anger? why? dear no -one is completely good without something bad in them and absolutely bad wihtout soemthing good in them, not all priests are like this, let God be the judge of them not you or anybody, ask yourself WHY??? after 2000 years until now the Catholic Church stands, then there still be something good in it, and mystical :) that God in His almighty power has not struck it yet despite some who are proving to be not perfect examples and sinners also like each of us. My prayers are with u, peace be with u.

You are hypocritical with your question as you are:
a) taking your lord's name in vain (god forsaken)
b) juding others (for shame...that's your god's job after all)
Oh well...I'm glad I'm an Atheist.
