Purgatory (Lat., "purgare", to make clean, to purify) in accordance with Catholic teaching is a place or condition of temporal punishment for those who, departing this life in God's grace, are, not entirely free from venial faults, or have not fully paid the satisfaction due to their transgressions.

Basically, purgatory seems to be where good souls go to cleanse off the bad parts of their human life before they are allowed to enter heaven.

I don't know if any other religion believes in purgatory, I never heard of another one that does.

I personaly don't believe in purgatry since there is no place in the bible that metions this but here is the definition.....

Purgatory commonly refers to a doctrine in the Roman Catholic Church, which posits that those who die in a state of grace undergo a purification in order to achieve the holiness necessary to enter heaven.[1] This purification of the elect is entirely different from the punishment of the damned in hell.[2] The Catholic doctrine holds that the souls in purgatory undergo temporal punishment due to venial sins or as satisfaction due to their transgressions,[3] and that they can be aided by the prayer and sufferings of the faithful and the Sacrifice of the Mass.[4] Hence central to the Roman Catholic doctrine of purgatory is prayer for the dead.

Non-Catholic positions include the Left Behind Theory, which states that upon death one's imperfections are left behind on earth. The main Protestant belief of an instantaneous and painless event, glorification, presupposes some manner of purgation, but is generally not referred to by the term "purgatory". Certain Islamic and Jewish beliefs are sometimes interpreted to be similar or equivalent to purgatory.

All along, humans have had a hard time accepting the idea of grace and forgiveness. So, some of the semi-ancient ones came up with the idea of Purgatory because they really didn't believe that God could honestly and truly forgive them for what they'd done without their having to still pay for it somehow. Nowadays, most Protestant denominations do not accept the idea of Purgatory because there is no solid scriptural basis for it. I don't know what the current Catholic teaching is on it. (I'm Protestant. You'd need to ask a Catholic Christian about that. Hopefully, one will answer you.)

There is a penalty that must be paid for all sin, even just one, regardless of how big or small it seems to a human. That penalty is blood. Death. All sin must be paid for with blood. God has been clear about that for thousands of years. Jesus paid that penalty, however, by shedding His blood for the remission of sin. As God's Son, only He could do that. You need to acknowledge that He is God's only Son, for one thing. To accept that He has paid your penalty, you need to agree with God that it is sin (confess to Him from your heart,) repent of your sin (turn away from it,) and ask Him in to clean your heart. Follow His ways and teachings. If you need help with any of these steps, go to a Bible-teaching church or parish and ask. They -- and you -- will be glad you did.

It is a fictional place designed to scare people...purgatory is thought to be a waiting room...after you die, your soul goes there until it is decided if you will spend eternity in heaven or hell. It's Catholic garbage. There is absolutely NO Biblical truth to it what so ever!
If a person has accepted Christ as his Savior and commits suicide, he will go to heaven.

Yes i think its Catholic....certianly not Biblical

Theif on the cross....Jesus said "THIS DAY you will be with me in paradise" Not next week or next year. Bible never mentions a waiting room. This tells us our last breath here is our first breath there. Just my interpretation.
