Faith is a private affair but religion is an organizational affair enjoined involuntarily by most of us by virtue of accident of birth. We are taught not to search for truth beyond what is dictated in the scriptures to be followed like a parrot. It is a social issue whether we should follow the inherited religion without questioning the contents. It is applicable mostly to the Semitic religions in the world to-day.

It is a social affair if people are to talk with respect and genuine interest in one's believes. If one approaches with an open mind and heart it can be very fulfilling.

It is a private issue if the discussion leads to criticism, hate, arguing or anything that is not making for a good experience.

Honestly, I don't believe that anyone knows much about our wonderous spirit or the true meaning of our purpose. No one here on Earth has all the answers. So, why not share in a peaceful way...

Peace...

Personally, I think it should BE a private affair, shared with people socially when asked.

I don't think people should FORCE it to be a social issue and make everyone believe in it, follow it, or even listen to it.

Religion may have social aspects, but in reality it is a very personal thing and no two believers have the the exact beliefs, even within the same religion. It is a deeply personal matter. That's why religion is such a hot button in conversation.

However, some misguided people like to make it a social issue.

Religion is both private and social. Private, because each of us must decide for ourselves what we believe. Social, because it is in the external world we must live out those beliefs.
