I have 3 cats and we never smell the box unless we are doing laundry. Try good litter for starters like Fresh Step. If you have more than one get multi cat formula. Adding a bit a baking soda to the fresh litter works too. I also use Frebreze spray in the area if they do a smelly poo.

Hi there...To eliminate the elimination odours consider using Nature's Miracle Just for Cats. It's an enzymatic neutralizer which breaks down urine and feces proteins by soaking the affected areas thoroughly and then allowing to air dry. Repeated applications are necessary for heavily soiled areas. Here's more about the product itself: http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441775019&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302033673

You'll want to go to one of the better pet stores in your area and get a cleaner with enzymes! Regular household cleaners won't completely do the trick.
Here is a product I've run across that offers a guarantee

They have alot of odor eliminator sprays on the market. You can find them in the pet aisle of your grocery store-at pet stores- and at your vets office. They are cheaper at the grocery store.

You need to get one of those pet stain and odor removers from the pet store. They do not cost much. I use "Petzyme" ($8.00) and it appears to work real well for poop stains and odor in my carpet (when I miss wiping kitty's *** and he wides it himself by scooting hin bumm accross carpet - ugggghhh).
