How do you move away from a dead guy? I suppose you can move away from the superstition. That would be a good thing.
Alcoholism up? It's only recently we even thought of it as a problem. People used to just let people be drunks.
Drug addiction is much lower than it used to be. There was a time when a large percentage of the population used opium and worse drugs in many countries. It wasn't illegal, either.
Porn is way up, but that's a good thing. It's nice to see that people finally are realizing that naked bodies aren't bad things.
Violence in schools is nothing compared to the violence in society in the past. Murder is down from just decades ago.
Homosexuality isn't up. There have always been a certain percentage of the public that is homosexual. Awareness that homosexuality is none of anybody else's damn business is way up. That's a good thing.
The economy is way way way up. People can afford to buy things now that they didn't even dream of before. Do you remember how much a VCR was when they first came out? Now we have digital video recorders in high definition that most people can afford.
Also, you don't seem to know much about the religion in American history. Many of the Founding Fathers were, at best, deists, not Christian. The Christian theocracies that existed before the Constitution was established caused much division and even death in this country. That was the reason the Founding Fathers decided to leave God out of the Constitution then later put explicit prohibitions against the government being involved in religion in the First Amendment.

There is a trend, it's called the easy way out. Living with the principles of the past is difficult and the move is to make life easy for ourselves so we skip a belief when it is convenient and then our kids get the idea they can do that too and on it goes. People don't seem to understand values or principles, they're dropped when things get tough, especially when dealing with wanting that drug over wanting what best for your children or wanting lots of sex partners when marriage gets to much expectations, or when
violence is easier than learning a new way to problem solve. You're kind of on the right track, Jesus is out of the schools because of rights of all, however, those who are Christians also want the easy way out, so they drop it out of their home too, just too much work!! I like this question, and thanks for the 2 points. Take care

Damn, you really don't have even the most basic understanding of American history or Sociology don't you? Just a simple refute: How come these things are not happening at all in countries like Norway where almost everyone is Atheist?

Because people should live in reality not a legend or exploited fable laden onto a dead man that no-one alive could know. if Jesus were here he would repossess the hypocrisy you call christian and admonish Christians for their hatred and hypocrisy.
I've never met a christian in 50 yrs that even remotely resembled Christ and his philosophy ... Christians lie a lot ! Christ supposedly understood and sympathized instead.EG you are going to hate homosexuallity when it's a genetic disorder . by your belief that was created by your god .
Stop the self righteous ego-centric hatred in the name of Christ .
peaceout

Although I agree with you in your evaluation...just to play "devil's advocate", many people in the world today don't see things as alcoholism, drug addiction, porno addiction and homosexuality as bad things. Therefore, to these people...going away from Jesus is logical. These people will also point to emancipation and women's lib as things that have come from moving away from Jesus...I say these things happened as more people moved closer. They point to the Crusades and the Inquisition and say "Look at what your god has done!", but what they don't realize is that many of those people involved in those things weren't close to Christ to begin with.

According to "ElevenEleven's" theory, since he came before me, he caused me.
Sounds sort of flawed to me lol.
But seriously, I don't really see your trend, I see worldwide society as a whole getting further away from their morals and values.
But I also see those who believe becoming more and more consistent in their faith.

Trust me...God hasn't been kicked out of society. It's just moved to different places. Around here, Christianity is prevalent in most places. It's just obvious more than ever that bad is winning over good.

Hmmm. We can also access more and better medications, find like-minded people online, eat healthier food, get better information on health, fly and talk on the phone for cheaper...
I don't see how things are so much worse.

My friend and i discuss this all of the time. We feel that it is Satan using his lies within truths. People get hooked by the basic truths that he uses so that they ignore the lies hidden beneath them. He is so efficient in this that most people are completely unaware, even those in the religious community, that Satan is undermining them and using them for his "good." I see it every day in my school, people unknowingly doing his work when they should be doing HIS work. It was not until i started attending church again and reading my Bible again taht i noticed it myself. That is another fallacy that Satan has worked into our lives. He has led a vast majority of the Christian community to believe that is "fine" not to go to church or read the Bible. While it may not hurt you right off the bat, this action takes you away from those who can support you and make sure you keep your faith strong. In fact, that is the whole reason I had to renew my faith, i had lost it when i joined this "church in exile." Unfortunately, I do not foresee a regrowth in the church within my lifetime, and i am only 16. All we can do is pray, and do our best to lead our fellow neighbors back to the Almighty.
