When I first got my transplant I was on 45mg. Food was Sooooo good I could have eaten the table leg. I was lucky in that it didn't make my face swell but it does do that to a lot of people. I only do 5mg now and have no noticeable side effects. I had lost a lot of weight so the weight gain was a good thing for me and it worked out that as I got to where i need to be that we started to reduce the amount. I have always been slim so I can't help you with weight lost but hang in their baby, It's a lot better that being dead .... LOL

Prednisone is a steroid and unfortunatley some of the side effects are water retension, swelling and weight gain among others. Be cautious because many patients do also suffer from very serious bouts of depression. You must be very carefully monitored by your Dr. and blood tests are necessary to watch the levels in your system, as steroids are known to cause kidney failure, heart problems and other side effects on other organs as well. Unfortunatly Crohn's disease is allready very debilitating and painful and takes it's toll on the entire body.
I wish you the best and I can say that I have a friend who has had Crohn's for many years and the good news is that they are finding out new treatments and drugs that now make it a lot more bearable and managable than years ago! Good luck and have faith that all will be better for you soon.

I have Asthma, and I took meds with Predisone in them. I got pudgy. I talked to my Doctor about my weight gain... she told me to cut down of sugars and junk food and start eating USDA certified Organic foods. Being Brazilian, my weight gain was significant to me but others would say not to worry. I found if you stop eating junk food like candy, chips, hamburgers, hotdogs, and pop except on occations like a party you can lose the weight. I recommend exercise... Don't just work out but play! I played Soccer, American football and paintball for the Summer and too long walks outdoors, basically do active things like sports and walking to nearby markets instead of driving. Try it, it worked for me. I too became depressed and shy, I still have rid myself of shyness but I feel good now that I lost weight. Also your doctor could prescribe an alternative like mine did. So basically, take predisone unless told otherwise but talk to your doctor, and get active!

I started losing weight again after getting off the prednisone. I am taking advantage of the cold weather to lose weight in. (Cold hurts/cools down/neutralizes? inflammation quickly.) I do not have your condition though, but I can definitely understand what you mean, and you can lose the weight when you are able to exercise again. Try your best.

you have in basic terms gained 7 kilos, it isn't any longer a ton. in case you consume much less after the predinsone is stopped, you will lose the burden. regrettably slower than you place the burden on. you may only workout slightly extra and you will see the burden off very at as quickly as.

Yes. It is a common side effect. There really is nothing you can do about it, but the puffiness will go away in time when you are off the medication.

Yes, it is a common side affect. You are going to have to really diet and excerise to get it off and then it won't all come off.
