I'm Spanish-Irish and I married a Mexican. It wasn't anything big. She was still Catholic and the Spanish and Irish have a lot in common with the Mexican culture. It was no problem for our family.

The wedding reception was a blast. Everyone got drunk and starting sing old Spanish songs and my Irish uncles started up with their Irish drinking songs. They even tried dancing the Mexican Hat dance and danced it well. It was a lot like river dancing.

Did you marry someone totally different?
What did your family think?
What was your wedding like?

I married a Brit and I'm Mexican-American. He was Catholic like me. Our parents were fine with it. We enjoyed each other's families. The wedding was fun. His family flew to LA from London for the wedding. My family hired a mariachi. A lot of rock n' roll music was played because he loves that music and a lot of songs that Mexicans consider Cholo oldies or Chicano oldies today was played (you know, like "Angel Baby" and Doo-Wop). It was simple and great.

My 2nd husband was Mexican like me (even though he looked like a white man). At that wedding, we went all out. We had a mariachi and an oldies band. There were tequila shots and a whole lot of dancing. Mexican food was served and rancheras were sang at the end when everyone was plastered. It was very "chunti."

Not me cuz i still aint old enough but i would not care if I married somebody from a different race or culture. My uncle's wife is Italian, my other uncle's wife is Polish. The parties are a blast especially the Italian-Mexican parties, with all the delicious pasta and tequila. I wish I could have seen your Irish uncles dancing the Mexican Hat dance. I'm Mexican so I would have loved to see that.

Im american, my wife's filipino.. we're both catholics and share the same value in family preservation, both our parents are together...

We got married in the Philippines, it was wonderful. The church was full of white flowers... and in our reception we had a tropical forest garden theme. My family went too, from the US to the Philippines... we had a good time, everyone liked the setting...

here's our wedding album...

I haven't gotten married yet, but I have considered marrying a good friend from the Philippines (I am American). It's good to hear that it worked out well for you. I guess if we got married our wedding would have lots of Filipino food-noodles and rice dishes--mixed with my family's nerdy jello salad stuff.

I'm Polish born in Poland my husband is Greek born in Canada. We met and live in the US :) I converted to Greek Orthodox from Roman Catholic, my family was OK with it. They love my husband.

His family was furious at first that he proposed to me - a non-Greek, but now I'm their favorite daughter-in-law (they have two, the other one is of course Greek)

We had a Greek wedding which was very interesting, and to me very different :)
I loved the movie "My big fat Greek wedding" b/c it reflected my husbands family perfectly. My husband is joking that he was probably switched at birth b/c he is so not like the rest of his family.

Well my mom is black and my step dad is from the middle east so i guess it is good for her. But for me it was alot to adjust to because he has rigid ideas about women thats why i do not speak to him now that i moved out. Because he wanted us to change but not him.
