If you mean the kind of "animal cop" that is featured on the TV show "Animal Cops," those officers are a special version of law enforcement that is a branch of the ASPCA. Such "animal cops" only exist in large cities and in a few places in the USA. In most places, animal "law enforcement" is handled by city or county animal control officers who have extremely limited peace officer powers. Check with the ASPCA or your local animal control agency.

That depends on where you want to work. Becoming an "animal cop" or humane law enforcement officer can be very competitive. Some police departments have certain officers assigned to handle the majority of animal complaints in their jurisdiction. Some places have animal control officers that perform duties similar to humane law enforcement officers. You might be interested in titles such as animal cruelty investigator, conservation officer, dog warden, humane society investigator, park ranger, game warden, or wildlife conservation officer. If you want to become a law enforcement officer, you should consider getting a college degree if you don't have one. Some majors you might want to consider include animal science, biology, communications, law, and psychology. Whatever major you choose, get the highest grade point average that you can, and do whatever else you can to make yourself the best candidate that you can. Best of luck!

In most cities, there are no "animal cops" they may have low paid dog catcher types. Only some spots have actual enforcement people and very few are truely cops, like NYC. The ASPCA in NY hires investigators, usually with prior law enforcement, military or animal handling experience. Check out their site at www.aspca.org under animal cruelty. They have humane law enforcement (the animal pct show on animal planet)They pay good and are actual peace officers (not police officers)
also check for your local SPCA. You can usually volunteer your way up.

Do you mean K-9 cop? I think you just have to join the police academy. Become an officer first. Then apply for a dog. That would be a cool job.
I say go for it.
