One thing no one has mentioned. Hormonal changes in teens often make them have an emotional roller coaster ride. Sometimes you are happy then you are sad and then you are mad then happy again. It is not always simply depression. A lot of it has to do with the hormonal changes you go through at your age. Also PMS can cause those feelings for several days a month. Be careful before you let a doc give you drugs for depression. Take time to see if it just comes and goes. If it is constant and never stops then it could be depression. They still do not know for certain what anti depressants do to people and with you still growing and developing , i would not take them unless it was the last resort.

from personal experience i can tell you that you aren't the only one that has thought these things. the mind is very complicated and there are times where we cannot control what we think because we are bothered so much by it. now my thoughts came about a little later, around 16 or 17 for me, but when times get tough or something traumatic or depressing has recently happened in your life. i thought how easy it would've been just to end my life but the difference is that you aren't doing it. think about what you'd be leaving behind. at least that was my motivation. there are so many things in life that you still have to do since you are so young. always believe in yourself. as for trying to get yourself to think about other things it gonna be redundant. my suggestion is just about happier things or what you are going to do for the week ahead. go out to the movies with some friends to get your mind off your troubles. that is the best way

I had depression when I was that age and still struggle with it. If you have a hard time sleeping, feel really anxious, have "panic attacks" or tend to shut yourself out from everything and feel like nothing matters anymore-you should probably talk to a doctor because you could very well be depressed. Everybody is different, so your symptoms could be different too. I think sometimes it's not necessarily depression, but just growing up and trying to figure out who you are and where you fit in.
Good Luck

Indecision, lack of concentration, or forgetfulness

Stay in your room a lot, listens to mostly depressing music (stuff that gets you down or talks about dieing, killing, pain or hurt), thinks a lot about sad things instead of happy things
A way to tell is to write down a list of 10-12 feelings/emotions that come to ur mind count them, if there are more sad words then happy ones ur probably depressed

The urge to withdraw from friends & family, feelings of total apathy (you don't care AT ALL about anyone/thing including yourself), lack of sleep, or the urge to sleep way more than usual, lot's of crying, so if this is going on, please go tell someone you trust about these feelings, don't just botte it up, it may only get worse. Trust me...Good luck honey

My sister is also 14,and she complains being sick of life the whole day.
I've experienced this before, maybe it's because of the mentality of a growing teenager.

If you don't feel like doing the things you usually enjoy like hanging out with friends, your eating habits change, you are moody like weepy or emotional. If you are feeling like harming yourself make sure you find someone to talk to right away. There are many good resources in communities to talk to someone if you want to talk to someone you don't know. Look under mental health in your yellow pages, or kids help lines.
