I recently found a lot of wooden cars, constructions vehicles and trains at target for $1 each. I made a little street and railroad crossing on a large mat.

You could tak the child to the airport, stop at construction sites and quiet overpasses to watch vehicles go by.

You could print out coloring pages and chat about them while you color together. I make my own coloring pages using PowerPoint and clipart (just recolor the image white except for the black outlines and you are good to go). We do a lot of coloring pages to teach about the holidays and stuff.

You could rent the movie Cars.

What are you trying to teach them about things that go? You must have a specific idea about the desired outcome of your lessons. There are great books about cars, planes, trains, etc. Little ones LOVE to watch construction machines, even Bobcats and things. Talk to them while they're playing, ask questions about what their doing and slip in some "observations" about their play relating to their topic. You probably know this, but toddlers won't sit still for presentations or lectures, they need hands on. Thomas the Tank Engine is a favorite character that "goes." Offer experiences plus appropriate dialogue from adults and keep any given lesson short, followed by experience. Most of all, have fun! If you're having fun, they will too!

If you mean physical development,I think I can help you a little.A two year old usually can jump with both feet,jump off step,walk up and down stairs two feet,draw circles or lines or dots using preferred hand,walk on tiptoe,kick a large ball,put on and take off simple clothes,build a tower of 6 or 7 blocks,copy horizontal and vertical lines,pick up tiny objects using a fine pincer grasp,unzip clothes,run safely,string 1-4 large beads,hold crayon with the hold hand,pull toys with strings,use spoon well,and turn pages 2 or 3 at a time.These are all activity that will refine the two years old physical development.So try some of the activity and you will find the child love to do the activity.Good luck!

You mean like cars and machines?

Are you handy with making things? Okay, you can make a mini fan while sitting in front of them, but do it out of paper and straws so they don't get hurt or anything. That is one simple way. And if you are a parent wanting to know this, you could always point out how things start moving after you do certain things. There are busy bead sets you can get that have handles to twirl some of the beads instead of the babies pushing them along the wires.... Hmm, what else. There are all kinds of things you can think up when you sit and try; most of what is coming to mind for me is stuff that would have to be simplified, though I don't simplify much for my kids and they're fine. You can show them videos of how mills and machinery in factories work, how one moves another.... You'll think of something.

Well, at least with my kids you can never go wrong with a nice catchy song and doing hands on. At 2, kids love songs and they stick in their heads, that is how I taught my 2 year old to spell his name. Also, things that make noises and get their attention, hands on is great that way you won't lose their attention. Even though, come on if we are being real, attention from 2 year olds is hard to get period. But I have 4 children and from experience those are the tools I used to help them.

How about transportation as a theme?

Just think of all the things that go-------cars, bus, taxi, boat, planes, bikes etc..........

next you can try to act out how these things go------
two year olds love to move their bodies----

can they move like a car-----using their steering wheel and beeping their horn as they go

or can they move like a plane------holding their wings out and taking off at the airport or landing.

Anything that goes also stops----

You can play stop and go------okay all you trains out there lets go-----and everyone chugga chuggas and blows their whistles until someone says STOP

then next we will be-------BOATS------get out your paddles annnnnnnd GOOOO

this could be a nice physical game on a bad weather day when the two year olds need more movement and you are stuck indoors-------good luck

of course this theme could expand to animals ----lots of animals stop and go too!

I've done an activity with little cars and dip their wheels in paint and make tire tracks on paper it's a super fun activity. You can also make a car out of a cardboard box, they love playing in that. Get lots of books about cars, planes, trains, bikes etc. Good Luck, Have fun!!!!
