If I wanted an NHS dentist, I would have to travel over 200 miles a year just for a check-up and pay 3% of my salary.

GP standards aren't that much better. Is private treatment the only practical alternative?

It certainly changed in the 24 years I did as a nurse, now I am retired from it all, thank goodness. The days of actually taking time and looking after people slowly changed into pen pushing roles and setting bench marks and researching the far end of the field, all taking time away from patient care. Grading of nurses was the biggest mistake they made, causing more animosity between staff. Now you have to have a degree to climb the ladder, sorry, but degrees in common sense and hands on patient care don't exist. Bring back the old training syllabus and ward Sisters like dragons who ran a tight ship, had great respect and had spotlessly clean wards, boy, I remember mopping them with phenolic or bleach till they shone, oh, sorry, they are banned now, wonder why the NHS is full of bugs???

Once the unions went everything else went with it. They'd sooner sack nurses and take on more penpushers. Figure that one out!
