I don't have any injuries and I'm already aware of good pain and bad pain at the gym. But yeah, stretching my hamstrings is excruciating while i hold the stretch. I hear that there's a nerve running along the muscle, so it hurts more when it stretches. Can anyone verify this?

I'm not sure, but I think you're referring to the large muscle at the back of the leg between the knee and your butt. If so .. mine gets cramped quite often and it hurts like hell. I believe the reason for it is that it's simply so large a muscle. I get cramps in smaller muscles and it's no where near as bad ... I believe it's relative to the size of the area experiencing pain. .. small muscle, small pain .. large muscle, large pain.

Try to flex the leg while stretching, there are muscles on both sides of the leg that work together.

You may also have metabolic issues that create pain in the tendons, often liver or gall bladder congestion causes this. A TCM doctor can give you a good diagnosis and treatment for a reasonable price.
