No excuse!!!! GSP is a far better fighter. Faster hands, better fround game, and more technical. If it wasnt for Matt Huges having such a strong wrestling background he would not have lasted as long as he did. Not to take anything away form Matt, he was a great champ, but his time is up. Now GSP is giving Matt a rematch just to prove that it wasnt a fluke.

Matt didn't make any excuses. He got his a** whooped by GSP. GSP was the better fighter that night and earned the win.
By the way. I am a Matt Hughes fan and I saw the fight, he was definately hurt. The rules of UFC now are designed to protect the fighters. There is a reason that UFC was banned in most states before the new rules were introduced. UFC was too violent before and fighters were in serious danger. There is no two punches in continuation rule in UFC. The TKO rule is purely a judgement call for the referee. If the referee feels that a fighter can no longer intelligently defend himself, he will stop the fight to prevent serious damage.

Like the others said, Hughes is a strong martial artist, and I believe he completely accepted his defeat without complaining. As far as the fight being an early stoppage... Well there is usually only controversy in a contest if the defeated fighter challenges the decision, which Matt Hughes did not do. He accepted the referee's judgement, and GSP legitametly won the fight. It wasnt a controversial or late stoppage. Matt Hughes is real strong, and it was hard to tell how hurt he was, but if you know Hughes; HE WAS HURT. The big roundhouse kick from George really stirred him up, and the ground and pound onslaught from George was pretty much unanswered the entire time, regardless of whether or not all of Georges shots landed flush.
Its time to accept that George St. Pierre is better than Matt Hughes, and that he is the champion.

GSP completely dominated Matt on stand-up. GSP was able to keep Matt at a distance. There were two accidential shots to the groin by GSP, which would suck the wind out of anyone.
GSP was a far superior fighter that night. The rematch should be really interesting. GSP will dominate Matt Serra too when they fight.

from what I understand of things, Matt (in his blog on his personal website) didn't give any excuse as to why he lost and praised GSP about his performance in the match.
it was a TKO call in the 2nd round that ended the fight.
the only thing that Matt HAS said is that he's already requested a rematch from the UFC committee and that they've agreed to it. but there's nothin' set right now about as to when the rematch is gonna happen or who Matt will go against before then.

The rule isn't 2 punches. BJ Penn took alot more than 2 punches before that fight was stopped. The rule is if you can no longer intelligently defend yourself, the ref stops the fight and you are ruled TKO. I think the refs do a great job.

he lost the same way he beat gracie the 2 punches in continuation rule... he wasn't hurt at all but the fight was stopped. UFC's rules suck, they need to go back to UFC 1 rules.
