regulation of electrolytes which keep electrical nerve impulses stable which is most important for the heartbeat.
ironicaly the sodium/chlorine balance is such that if altered slightly makes salt deadly. too much salt causes fluid retention,bad for the heart

Salt isn't, sodium is. ANd thats because its one of the many minerals we need (Although only in small supply)
