You cannot produce spirits for beverage purposes in ANY amount without paying taxes and without prior approval of paperwork to operate a distilled spirits plant.
There are numerous requirements that must be met that make it impractical to produce spirits for personal or beverage use. Some of these requirements are paying special tax, filing an extensive application, filing a bond, providing adequate equipment to measure spirits, providing suitable tanks and pipelines, providing a separate building (other than a dwelling) and maintaining detailed records, and filing reports.

I live in Kentucky and moonshine is abundant, but its all illegal. For one, it is illegal to sell moonshine and for another I live in a dry county so it is illegal to sell alcohol period.
If you make it but don't sell it then it should be fine. However, if you hadn't had it before I wouldn't suggest it....that's some strong stuff.

It's not illegal. You can make wine, beer, liquor and all that other crap. Just don't sell it.
