All of the guys above are sensible and telling it the way it is. Your pastor is feeding you a line of BS that is so rich it could fertilize the continent. By claiming there is a conspiracy among the scientific community, he is intentionally throwing doubt on all arguments against his proposition. That is not playing fair. ANY sensible person knows that the scientific community is not conspiring on squat. Instead they work diligently to crosscheck and attempt to disprove claims or theories. Only if it holds up to intense world-wide scrutiny does a theory gain acceptance.
People who claim that science and religion do not mix are biased and misled. Either they don't know that much about religion or they don't know that much about science. It is obvious that your pastor knows very little about science and the real world. How can somebody who is supposedly knowledgeable about theology claim that God used magic? I have never seen any mention of some God-magic used to create petrified wood. That's a new one and it sounds rather comic.
I agree with all the guys who recommend you find a different pastor. He is presenting his imaginative explanations in a way that is not arguable or provable and he is taking advantage of his position of assumed trust. My pastor and I are very frequently working to undo the damage of bad religion. Don't become a victim by naively trusting somebody that is literally leading you down the path.

Ask him if the stars we see at night are real.
Ask him how come we can see the stars at the end of our galaxy.
Since it is 100,000 light years across, it would take 100,000 years for the light from these stars to get to us. If the world was 6000 years old we wouldn't see the stars at the edge of our galaxy yet because in the Bible the earth was made on the second day and the stars weren't made until the third day. But we can see them, since we can the earth is MORE than 6000 years old. Not to mention stars from other galaxies which are millions of light years away.
We can measure the speed of light, we can measure how far things are away from us.
Ask him where in the Bible does it say magical fire to petrify wood.

Well you could do some research for yourself and find out if what he told you is true or false. Um I don't remember of any record of God setting a magical fire to petrify wood but if you do find a record of it somewhere, please post it. This gives you a great chance to study and track down some truthful facts on your own.

There are many, many Christian scientists who work in areas that touch on the age of the Earth. They would not make stuff up for the express purpose of destroying their own faith.
Personally, I believe that creationism is, though not a conspiracy to destroy Christianity, doing a pretty good job of it! There are too many people who were taught "Jesus AND creationism, or neither" and when they realized that creationism is false, followed that programming by sadly giving up Jesus too.
Look into the evidence for yourself. If your faith can be destroyed by scientific truth, it is built on straw and you need to build it on something stronger. Truth cannot be the enemy of God.

Gee this must be the same preacher at my ex-husbands church that doesn`t believe in dinosaurs. I am christian, but there are scientific facts that you just cannot ignore. Sometimes christians cannot separate science and religion. We have no true way of knowing exactly how old the universe is, so your preacher saying this cannot be sure himself.

Um, I'd like to try to break this to you gently, but your pastor is either an outright liar, an insane person or some other form of mentally abusive personality, perhaps all three. Learn science at school and religion at church. Preferably some other church where they don't let insane liars do the preaching.

Uh...I think the frozen man is as old as science says he is.
Your pastor is a good man and faithful man, talk compassionately with him about your doubts. He will counsel you on why he believes what he stated. Your pastor may need your insight as well, but always defer to his position respectfully.

He speaks of something being "magical" and you want to know if he speaks the truth? Your pastor may have good intentions and know what he is talking about generally when it comes to being a Christian, but it sounds as if he should leave science alone.

Did he dip his "magic staff" in this ice? Did you have to thaw it out for him?
Only joking it is true, that was just a hiker that got lost, the Adidas sneakers gave him away!
