1. The rope isn't tied to anything, so the horse can go freely to anywhere it pleases.

2. The maid because there are no mail's on sunday

3. Fred has 3 cages and 4 canaries.

4. Steve is a juggler. When he came to the bridge he juggled the gold, always keeping one piece in the air.

5. Since all the windows face south, the house must be at the North Pole and the Bear is White.

Thus the bear is a Polar Bear.

6. A River

1. The horse IS tied up, but the hay is still within the 15 foot radius circle the horse can make with the rope (there's 15 feet between the horse and what's he's tied to, and 10 foot beyond what's he's tied to is the hay).

2. Maid did it - no mail on Sunday.

3. let x = number of canaries
y = number of cages

x = y + 1(one canary per cage, one bird too many)
(x/2) +1 = y (two canaries per cage, one cage too many)

x = (x/2) + 1 + 1
2x = x + 4
x = 4
y = 3

Therefore, 4 canaries, 3 cages.

4. There are many possible answers here (he throws one over to the other side, he makes more than one trip across the bridge, etc.), but none of these fit with Steve's occupation -- he's a party magician. He could juggle them, but the downward force needed to keep the one gold piece up in the air would certainly cause the bridge to collapse, so I'm not in favor of this one either.

Therefore, I'm voting for he makes them disappear and reappear on the other side, which is in line with his magical abilities. :-) {I'm still wondering how Steve acquired said pieces of gold - party magicians don't make that much - do they?}

5. White - you're at the North pole.

6. A river.
