Either one can produce a good picture. A lot depends on the drive circuits, which is a lot (not all) of what makes one set more expensive than another.
What really counts is the vertical resolution/scan rate.
All things being equal, and if money is no object:
Any HDTV with 1080p resolution/scan rate. (It most likely will be an LCD, since other technologies have trouble producing a picture with that kind of resolution)
I personally think that 1080p will become commonplace in a year or so. (Can you wait?) Go to a big electronics store (Best Buy) and find one that is running a BluRay DVD to see what will definitely be in our future. For me, I'll just wait. In the meantime. my CRT set is just fine.

I'm going to assume you mean flat panel LCD and not LCD projection.
Alot of this choice can be handled by what size you need? Assuming you want a theater feel you want to divide your viewing distance by 2 to get the correct size. At this size HDTV looks great. If you happen to be getting one of the new 1080p TV sets you can multiply that screen size by 1.4 if you want because each pixel is smaller by that much. Of course depending on your taste, usage and how much room you have you might choose a smaller set. If bigger is better then go DLP.
DLP has a better response time so fast motion tends to look better on them and with Mitsubishi's new 6 color system colors are fantastic.
However if you don't want to plunk down $200 every so often (5000-6000 usage hours on most DLPs or every 3 years at 5hrs/day) for a new lamp then avoid DLP, LCD Projection or LCoS (SXRD,DILA) and go with LCD or Plasma.
Plasma is still a good choice as long as you take some minor precautions to avoid burn-in and they last just as long as LCD.
Good Luck.

well this is pretty much the sony and samsung match. sony has the LCD and samsung has the DLP. samsung is cheap while sony is better. DLP are cheap then LCD but LCD are worth the extra cost so i would get an LCD.

they are about the same but DLP lasts longer cause you can change out the bulb inside it and it is HD. An LCD is thinner and has better color.

According to reports, LCD appear to be better since they produce true color, have great picture in home environments, do not have an issue with burn-in.
