Hi, I need some help. I am going to my Dad's burial next week at Calverton National Cemetary on Long Island. I am thinking of flying into JFK airport and then getting to Calverton on Long Island.

Do you know if there is a bus or train that goes out that way? Is it crazy to drive from JFK up hwy 678 turning on to hwy 495 out to Calverton?

Any help or resources would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

Thats a haul my friend (my dads there too) I live near JFK, your BEST bet is to hire a limo, or car, there is like NO public transportation to there, (it's in the sticks, by the old Grumman plant). If you need a car, my friend has a reputable business in the limo/car service, if you want, u can e-mail me for his phone #, or rent a car from JFK, and drive the way you said, thats about the only direct way out there, I would take .... Belt parkway , East bound, it turns into Southern state parkway east bound, get off at "Seaford/oyster bay expressway (135) north bound, then get on the LONG ISLAND EXPRESSWAY (495) east bound to Calverton, this way you wont have to deal with the trucks all the way on 495 (L.I.E)

You would need to get the LIRR from Jamaica, Queens to Ronkonkoma, Long Island. I don't think the train goes all the way to Calverton.

If you could rent a car or have family or relatives pick you up from JFK it really would be easier for. Going from here to there is going to be so time consuming.

My dad is also in calverton. He passed away in March 1996. My prayers are with you and your family.

I hope that I helped you out.

If you want to check into your hotel at 6:00AM book the room for the night before call ahead thell them flight gets in a 6:00 the next morning. They may want a credit card to guarantee the room but they will hold it. From JFK take the Train to the Plane tram to Jamaica Station. Take the E subway to Queens Plaza. From Queens Plaza North walk up 29th Street 3 blocks to 39th Ave. The Manhattan View is on the corner. And yes a cab will be almost $30.00 at least. Public trans will be about $10.00 (not sure what the T to the P is bit subway is $2.00 and T to P is not more than $8.00)

Sry about ur lost , my grandfather was buried there too, was he in teh army?

Anyways, you can really fly from JFK to ISP cause JFK goes internationally and Isp is not Local and even if u fly to ISP you have about 45 mins from there!

SO i wuld say drive but dont take the 678 takes a long way!

Go East on Belt Parkway and take it up to the Cross Is. Parkway North. I don't really know this exit but take the Grand Central Parkway East towards Long Island, Hauapqua. Whats good about this Parkway is your able to run fast on it . Take it till' i think exit 38A Long Island Expressway East or take The Northern State All the way.

If you get off at the Long Island Exit. Take the Lng Is Expy to exit 68N William Floyd Parkway and form there am LOST

If u stay on Nothern State take it to thi sexit called Sunken Meadom Parkway South Bound towards Bayshore(About 30-38 mins from teh Lng Is Exit) While on the Sunken Paky to teh lng Is Expressway East Towards Riverhead and get off at 68N

Also Go can take the Belt Pky to the Southern State Parkway East. Take the SSP all the till you have reached the Sunrise highway Rt.27 known in teh city and take take until you reached teh William Flyod Parkway North.

AM not sure but Try Tirboro arpt to fly form there to ISP

Sorry to hear about your loss.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is public transportation available for you.

I have a suggestion though.

JFK to Calverton is about a 75 minute drive on a "good" day.

Why not fly into Islip/MacArthur Airport (ISP). A lot of the discount airlines use that airport. From ISP its only about a half-hour - perhaps someone can pick you up.

Sincerely,
