Yes it is true chocolate can kill dogs. The reason is chocolate contains a Xanthine compound, Theobromine,Caffeine & Theophylline which are all poisonous to dogs. While you can feed your dog chocolate every once in awhile, it is not recommended as these compounds cannot be processed out of the dogs system and if the levels become too high the dog will become very ill and this can eventually lead to death. However small amounts of chocolate will not kill a dog, most times it wont even make the dog sick until the chemical levels have been recahed. The 20 lb dog should be fine. The 8 lb dog however may act ill if this is the case provide ample amounts of fresh water and he shoudl begin feeling better after a few days. But more then likely he will not be too adversly affected, unless he ate more of the chocolate than the other dog did, in which case he should be checked out by a vet as soon as he begins to act ill.

With the amount they weigh more than likely it's not deadly to them, just very very unhealthy for them. I feel your pain though, because I have one myself that just got into the Christmas candy and ate the foil and all. It can give them stomach aches and make them throw up, and it can also make them have the diahrea, but unless they start doing that and do it for longer than a few days, you really shouldn't be to worried. Just try to make sure that they don't eat chocolate frequently, because after a while, it can cause them harm. Good luck, and I hope your babies feel better.

Normally dogs only get sick when they eat a very large amount for chocolate. One ounce doesn't do anything. If it was a whole chocolate rabbit or of the same amount, watch them in case they get sick.

I would keep an eye on them. I had a miniture schnauzer eat a half pan of brownies once, we put her in her port a kennel to keep her heart rate as low as possible. An ounce shouldn't kill them, but it is a good idea to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Well i have a 9mon cocker spaniel....The other day he ate a whole box of Fannie Mae pixies. I called the vet they told me to make him vomit. It's 5 parts water to 1 part peroxide. They should be ok like myself just be careful because it can be deadly.
