Actually, I'm not sure if that's the right word I'm looking for because I'm talking about animals. I'm wondering if the Bible says anywhere that it's okay to kill an animal (or even an insect) to keep it from having to suffer. I know that the in the Ten Commandments it says "Thou shalt not kill". It gives no special circmstances or anything. But is there anything that says about doing it to keep an animal or insect from suffering?

No, God has put animals under the dominion of man. However it talks about dealing with them kindly. That would include if we killed them for food, for example, to do it in a humane way, and not to promote their suffering. (I know I'm gonna hear from vegetarians on that one, but I stand by it.)

I don't know what the Bible says, but my heart says, god is ok with putting a suffering animal "to sleep" I had to have my Golden Retriever put to sleep in May, she had bone cancer. I would not let her suffer, I loved her and it was the right thing to do.

Rest in Peace, LadyLou

I can't recall a Bible verse about that. But your question gives me a hundred other thoughts.
Jainists sometimes wear a cloth over their noses and mouths to keep them from inadvertently inhaling small insects because they don't want to kill small insects.

Who cares? According to the bible it is okay to kill as a sacrifice. I have never killed an animal to please any God. I have put down 2 animals who were suffering. I still love them both dearly. I will be with both of them for eternity when my soul crosses over.

God gave man dominion over all the non-human creatures of the earth.

It is rightfully within our power to determine the fate of animals, for any reasonable purpose, even whether they live or die.

The commandment deals with murder .. criminal homicide of people. Not animals.

A quick death is more merciful than prolonged suffering.

oh yes...the bible is full of killing animals and performing sacrifices to please god.

Its also full of killing people too, just because they don't agree with your beliefs.

strangely at one part it also says thou shalt not kill.
